Still employed, full time. General Contractor & Real Estate. We build them, then sell them. We have slowed down obviously. No word yet on when the lay offs are going to start. But pretty sure it will start soon. Going to start putting money away, just in case. But I think right now, I'd rather take a pay cut, then to be let go permanently. If I need extra money I can go work a part time job.

Lucky to have a full-time job with excellent benefits and extremely low odds of being laid off. I work for the government. Love the field I'm in. Hate the boss, however, hoping he is not reappointed by the next governor.

Re: What is Your Employment Status
I am supposedly retired.

But I am talented and I do a wide variety of things at request that supplements my income.
For instance I did the plumbing for a friend's spare apartment and garden shack, I do small fix ups for a real estate involved friend for owners that want to make a place more sale worthy. I also seem to be the one always asked to do things like drive people to eye examinations or pick up from airport or help move to new house etc.

It is nice to be able to just spend like a whole week just doing what I want. So far my financial ability is just fine but also I am able to subsist comfortably paying my bills and not need a whole lot from marketplaces.

And have already sold about everything worth selling that I can let go on craigslist.com

Somehow, by the grace of God I've been making it happen.

full time.

Honestly though I wouldn't mind getting laid off but I don't think the place I work will ever slow down enough for that to happen due to the products made there. There is no ceiling on how much overtime I can work, though right now I'm lucky to get getting none. hiding

I work part time (by choice) and my husband retired from the Army in 2007 and is now on his second career. I guess you could say hes "full time" but hes salary so hours worked dont really apply.

no, I'm about a 1222.29 mile drive north and west of there, and it's hard to get hired here in good economic times, much less now. We are slowing down here too, though people here are used to working on average, 20% overtime, which is 48 hours a week, every week, all year. Some complain about only getting 40-48 now when they used to work 60 or more, so bleh. Better then being jobless but I don't like living at my job.. I'd rather be cheap and have more time off.

There are other jobs around though, they just don't pay quite as much with such clean, sterile working conditions.
It's still factory work, though I've never minded that. Everyone's gotta get by somehow.

I'd be curious to know the number unemployed and looking for work, vs unemployed because they are rich or otherwise don't need to work.

Work's not as good, as when oil was at 100+. But my shop is still getting overtime. FYI, any welders or welder/fitters out there Tulsa still has tons of fab. jobs out here.
