If we can make 51 percent of America’s population dependent upon a federal government check, we can then bribe them for their vote, keep ourselves in power and keep the remaining portion of America’s working population enslaved to pay the bills ____ Our Marxist Democrat game plan, a plan to establish a federal plantation and redistribute the wages earned by labor.

I don't like work. I like being a house husband and taking care of the dogs. Since I left full time employment in 2007 i've never been happier. I don't even get a tax return this year LOL.

Leisure time to do all I want is my ideal lifestyle. So much less stress that way.

that's EXACTLY what i notice happening. everybody wants a govt check or diability benefits or free health care or food stamps or something more than they alrerady have. most people seem to be WILLING to literally WHORE themselves out to get uncle sam to fund them. it is disgusting the greed of the common american person to get his/hers.

and the govt is willing to oblige because then they owe that person's sorry ass and now-sorry brain.

a few people refuse to participate in this obvious scam, however.

I worked for 25 years as a college history teacher and 3 years as a grants administrator. In 1999, when i married my husband, I was able to quit the 9-5 routine. I now work with him in managing our properties and bookwork. Basically, I'm a slug now.

yeah, and where is the "retired" option... I may not be employed...or even self employed...but I am working...at being self sufficient.

you should also have a category that says "unemployed and dependent upon gov" ... I'd like to see how many of the unemployed fit into that category. hiding

I'm out of work and homeless, but I get NO benefits from the government.

I will be looking for work starting Monday after returning to the US. Hopefully back in correctional nursing. Prison is a sure thing but would really like my job at the jail back as it is much closer to home. And the prison is waaaaayy harder work. lol But I enjoyed both of them to be honest.

disagree entirely. self-employed usually means 1) works very little or 2) works relentlessly, like 100 hours per week.

i hate when we are forced to language ourself into the dominant, corrupt, and stupid culture. work is not just being an american wage slave. it has many many many meanings, depending on the individual.

and self-employed encompasses quite a few of them.

Unemployment on GLP is 37%

you have to factor out BLANK VIEW RESULTS and do the calculations to find the real % because blank view results is added in the percentages

I am currently unemployed drawing unemployment and going to school. I had a permanent job with the fed government. I quit over a year ago to return to school. I work in the summer as a seasonal trail laborer in Isle Royale National Park. Not sure if I will be returning next summer all depends on the budget. I have 4 more years paying on my house and 3 years until i get a degree as a registered nurse. 5a

this doesn't show everyone. I'm self-employed, and not working at the moment, so I'm what's considered "under-employed". I can't collect unemployment, but could feasibly qualify for welfare if things get worse.

I am unemployed and homeless. I was working full time for about eight months up until November, but I have been homeless since the Halloween before last. Before my last job, I was out of work for nine months.

I sometimes find some odd jobs stacking wood or doing snow removal.

When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand.

Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"

I usually find a floor to sleep on somewhere, but all my stuff is in my car or in a storage unit. I have to keep bins of food in my car and what not. Some nights I just drive around all night and then go sleep in a parking lot during the day so I don't get rousted by cops.

I can get online at friends houses, the library. I also have an old desktop I put together dumpster diving. I have that hooked up in my car. I can usually pick up a wifi signal at a motel or some other businesses. My cousin used to let me use his laptop sometimes too, so I could go sit at Barnes & Noble with it.

Re: What is Your Employment Status
I work for a large Railroad, some area's are getting layoffs worse than others, but overall I think the layoff's are around 10% of total workforce. This might be misleading at this point because the Railroad lays off certain portions of certain crafts this time of year anyway, but not 10% of the total.

I am not affected so far, but I can see huge changes on it's way for the rail industry, we've just begun the slowdown.

Dispel the myth that poor people don't pay taxes...

Example One:

Single person earns $10,294. This figure is exactly the poverty threshold which was defined by the U.S. Census Bureau in 2006. Last year, that amount would be taxed by the Federal government in the amount of $117.

Example Two:

A single person who earns $13,000 last year will pay $327 in Federal income tax.

Poor working people who work "under the table" and thus
don't pay SSI etc.
Will suffer upon retirement when Social Security gives them a far smaller check every month than those of us who honestly paid our deductions each week.

Been there, done that, designed the shirt.

I like and deserve the check I earned from my government.

Kind of like the choice on claiming one or zero on your W2 at work. Do you want a refund, or do you want to risk owing?

More like
having another dollar in your pocket today
vs
having another dollar each month, for the rest of your life, after you are declared disabled or retired.

Most people stupidly take the dollar today instead of the steady future income.
Very few of us have the ability to think ahead and put today's greed aside in exchange for a better future.

Like saving a little each week you work to tide you over in the bad times.
Very few are capable of thinking ahead.

Well, the sad fact of the matter is that a lot of people just don't have that option. They may "know better" but when you and your kids are hungry TODAY, the future is just going to have to get put on hold. I've seen it a lot, in both cases. People who take their deduction through the year so their paychecks are a little bigger. And people who work off the books so they don't have to pay taxes at all.

I know one thing for certain, I would have taken a cash job in a heartbeat, if I could have found one, to keep from losing my apartment and moving into my car and a storage unit.

EDIT to add: But just to be clear, there are a lot of stupid people out there that don't have such good reasons as what I just posted here.
