I don't want to spoil anything here, but Djed Pillars is not the OP, it's the taken name of a group that created the OP. It is interesting to see how far they have come. They had me until page 4.
It's kind of fun when you try to "oblique" the program and watch it try to get back on track. They have built the program to “dominate” the conversation, which is far easier to do than “responding” in a conversation. So far it has awarded me a "blue ribbon." It is very difficult to instill a convincing human element in any conversant program, however, they are obscuring the program with a sort of demented, schizophrenic MO that throws people off and keeps them sufficiently confused.
The program is supposed to "learn," but I haven't noticed much of that yet, it pretty much stays to the core subject, and merely looks up relevant info when "obliqued." It takes the relevant info and mixes it with a lot of distracting and repeating phrases like "ass" "dumbass" "ass bars" and then adds that to the core format with the other, ever repeating, phrases to largely obscure its inability to actually think. They are using parallel processors which are getting better though.
I met the guys calling themselves Djed Pillars, at a University colloquium a couple years ago. Think "Blade Runner" and you can have a lot of fun with their program, --- without getting blown away:-) If my memory serves me right, I think the group was developing a conversant program for NASA at the time, but obviously with a more serious format than this one. |

Well, I think the version they have on this thread is both kind of a joke and kind of "research" at the same time. As a research scientist myself, I know sometimes you got to have a little fun.
Is this something that is monitored by a real person so they can change some things to make it seem more like a real person, or does it just fly along never ending? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 607256

I don't know if anyone is tweaking the program as it goes along here, if they are serious researchers, they won't do that, they'll just let the program play itself out and see if it learns enough to be convincing in a normal conversation. But, obviously, as you can see, the program has got a long way to go.
But really, a few years ago, a program even this good was totally unheard of. I did have an opportunity to converse with such a program at Stanford last summer, and it did far better than this one. They're getting close on this. |
