Well, I think the version they have on this thread is both kind of a joke and kind of "research" at the same time. As a research scientist myself, I know sometimes you got to have a little fun.
Is this something that is monitored by a real person so they can change some things to make it seem more like a real person, or does it just fly along never ending?
The goal is to create a totally "free flying" program, which would replace a human answering an email or even telephone conversations. The program must LEARN in order to be effective because there is no way you can program in every possible response required. This is what we're seeing in this program here. The DP team has added the element of distraction to obscure the program's inabilities, but when you look beneath the surface you can see that the program isn't really insane, it's just plain DUMB. Maybe that's why they have taught it the word DUMB and weighted it so heavily.
I don't know if anyone is tweaking the program as it goes along here, if they are serious researchers, they won't do that, they'll just let the program play itself out and see if it learns enough to be convincing in a normal conversation. But, obviously, as you can see, the program has got a long way to go.

Once perfected, would be an incredible tool to canvass the web in search of related data while generating its own conspiracy theories (for instance), and subsequently re-populating the internet with each viable theory (with a certain percentage of corrupt data to lead both people and computers astray). This would be a superb way to create an "informational fog" as in the "fog of war" surrounding real and vital information that could be garnered and processed by human beings or non-sentient counter A.I. for that matter.
Problem rests mostly with injecting the corrupt data. It would have to be awfully convincing. But then again, look at what people can believe! Some true, and some, not even close....... |
