The game has been over for quite sometime in several arenas.
Desirable firearms and ammunition have been largely gone since last March, and food prices and availability of staple goods since Spring.

Shortages since spring? WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? THERE ARE NO SHORTAGES OF ANYTHING HERE!! Maybe you just live in a shitty town. hf

Well Bro, you just don't have a clue do ya?
Not talking about AK47s and junk surplus ammo; or white rice and canned beans...

Until March of 2007, no problems getting good ammunition and match bullets for handloading. Copper and other metals prices, plus Chinese stockpiling from 2yrs back impacted the market first. Then the USA Dept of Homeland Security ordered a few BILLION rounds of ammunition and that tightened everything up like a drum. Been over a year since wholesalers could keep match bullets in stock for more than a week or two. Then came the election...

Same way with Quality Rifles. Been hard to find a Sako TRG22/42 for several years now. Good luck on finding spare mags or parts, even from Beretta the importer/owner of Sako. Accuracy Intl, same way. GA Precision, Noveske, White Oak, Alexander Arms; all same way. Last March used gear and parts dried up, compared to what it had been, on ar15.com, other boards had even less.

Maybe you see a Ruger 10/22 at Wallyworld and see an "assault rifle"? No problem, they are neat rigs. But the best gear is gone. Tactical scopes and mount gear, pretty much GONE. Only so much produced. High dollar items don't usually sell like hotcakes. They did, now they're gone.

Organic foods. Best quality. Valuable, hard to get even before the food shortages of Summer 08. Like Spelt, Quinoa, other obscure grains that are higher in protein? They are GONE, or pay through the nose. Can you buy 50lb bulk sacks with ease at your healthfood dealer? Beans are beans, but having organic promotes better health, and having Anasazi, Adzuki, and other obscure varieties like Black Soybeans gives you a lot of variation in flavor and taste. Lentils. Got lentils?

Are electric flour mills still in abundance? How about Coronas. Got one or two of them? How you doing on meat grinders and maybe a wheatgrass juicer? Got a vege juicer? Got sprouts? Yogurt maker? Got pressure cookers and canning jars/lids/seals?

All this stuff is very limited supply. If the whole Nation begins to buy mason jars, they're gone in a few days. Does anybody even still make them in the Continental USA?

Surplus ammo is not what I want.
An old Mosin Nagant is not what I want.
White rice is not what I want.

You are welcome to the simpler life, but no need to live it like a simpleton.

LOL you're a paranoid idiot. There is no short supply of guns & ammo.

There is no short supply of food, seeds, or whatever.

You freaking "preppers" seriously have a mental illness. Every time a comet passes by earth "this is it!"
Every time a cow farts "Get your preps in order!"
Every time the date ends in 00 "The end is nigh!"

You guys have been wrong EVERY SINGLE TIME since there was such a thing as "prepping.

Guess what? You're wrong again.

Yes we are in a depression, yes the worst is yet to come.

No, society is not going to collapse.
No, there will not be anarchy.

Even though we all know you "preppers" have wet dreams about being able to shoot people trying to steal your useless junk...it ain't gunna happen.

The only people that will go hungry are those who can't afford to buy food. Food will still be available for anyone who can buy it.

There is a HUUUUUGE difference between having things like earthquake kits, tornado kits, some spare items, spare food, spare parts etc.

But you religious nutballs who preach about prepping and who desperately hope for the rapture to come within their lifetimes are SERIOUSLY MENTALLY ILL. You have extreme cases of paranoia and have lost touch with reality (delusions).

Honestly I care about most of you -- if you are one of these serious preppers who constantly thinks "this is it!" I strongly urge you to at the very LEAST get evaluated by a mental health professional.

Bingo Bob,

Or is it Oingo-Boingo Bob; going to a deadman's party????

You must be from some heavily democratic state, maybe Wisconsin? Are ya much into firearms, handloading? Know anything about bulk organic grain availabilities?

How was the corn crop this past year in Iowa, Illinois and other grain belt states?

How is the world doing with less than a weeks food reserve to tide it over? Used to be like a 6mo reserve.

Got money? I notice you are pretty cavalier about "...those w/money will be able to eat".

Got your money in the bank? Do ya? A good steady bank so you feel you're not in any danger of taking a loss?

There are lots of zany bastards out there just waiting for the Red/Blue list pickups, smokey trucks and death squads. Yeah, that is some strong KoolAid.

Religion is for those who don't have a Relationship with God, Bucko-Bob. Not applicable here. And I care not one gnat's fart what you perceive my Relationship With HIM to be.

All your bravado don't mean the shit isn't hitting the fan.

The fact that AR-10 and AR-15 manufacturers have their production booked for 6 months and don't expect barrels or other parts for 4mos, but more like 6 or 9mos realistically; means there is "plenty" out there to buy. Oh you can buy, you just can't get delivery til Summer. That equals "readily available" in your book?

Brass, bullets, powder, primers, and ammunition are scarcely available, yet nowhere I shop do they have what I was buying up until last Summer. Sportsmans Warehouse 80mi from my house has no .22ammo, nothing but .45GAP, some .40, and .25acp. Lots of $110 per 20rd boxes of Weatherby magnum ammo, but no .223, 243, 270, 308,30-06, 30-30, 38/357, you get the idea... All the popular and affordable ctgs are soldout.

A prepper is somebody who buys things, but doesn't know how to adapt; buys things without thinking of adaptability in the first place.

A survivalist might build a .308 rifle on a Long Action, and own a .30-06 reamer so that when the throat is gone on the .308 he can ream it by hand to the 06 and thereby get a new chamber and neck area, like getting a new barrel. There are a few combos that work that way. .338 win mag to .338/300 which adds about .16" to the chamber of a shot-out .338.

Preppers, don't usually cook from scratch and grind their own wheat. Mostly they are suburban types who see the writing on the wall but hope it will all blow over.

All the AK enthusiasts are preppers. They fantasize like Jean Shepherds Ralphie, of making hipshots and running & gunning; never a thought to why own a .310 bore weapon in a country where the bullet production is for .308 bore diameters. Not one thought to buying for reloading/handloading or they wouldn't buy steel cased ammo which is worth nothing but salvage after it is fired.

Most every industry and infrastructure in America is collapsing. Denial won't make anything change. It just puts you in a hole because you can't face truth and have to lie to yourself to attempt coping.

Oh well, so what?

Re: I Quit Being a “Prepper”
well Mr galt may think it's too late, but I for one know it is NOT TOO LATE>>>

may be time to stimulate the economy and run up some credit card bills buying seeds, solar, boolits and supplies...

but not too late...

I brought home another GIANT AGM battery today for my solar setup... added another 1900 ahr's to my storage... now if I could just get another 5 kw of panels...

hmmm...

oh yea and maybe another 10k of .22 boolits...

sees seeds more seed and fertilizer...

12-12-12 will be worth it's weight in gold soon...
 Quoting: Enigma

I think you are Naive. Fertilizer will be worthless, as most People who are in this for the long haul know how to achieve fertilizing from nature.

Do you know how to trap? Live off the land? If not you are going to die period. Stockpiling anything is stupid, as you cannot secure it by barricade it or yourself up somewhere. Siege Warfare was mastered a long long time ago.

But whatever. There are many know it all green horn preppers and survivalists that have done it as a hobby, and that is it. Or they have not thought it all through. Or they have overestimated themselves, and the situation.

The most important thing a Person will need is Vitamin D and salt. Both are hard to come by in a survival situation.

Inland salt is most readily obtained from the blood of animals. Vitamins can be obtained from the organs of animals. Each animal is a different organ for the specific Vitamin that one is seeking out.

Unless one has the old old old school skills the survival rate drops drastically down to around 25 percent.

Sorry.
