RESOLVED: bright object in SouthWest Sky

I know this won't end the debate and I'm not a debunker but this is what I saw.

6:50 local time, 30 minutes north of Edmonton Alberta Canada, no city lights out here.

We have all followed these threads about 'the object' with interest. As luck would have it, the sky cleared tonight.

I first launched Stellarium and scanned the horizon for any bright objects SouthEast or SouthWest of my position on the face of the earth.

To the south, slightly east we have Sirius, to the SouthWest we have the crecent moon and above and left of it, Venus.

So I fired up my Celestron SkyScout and headed outside. This device has a GPS, computer and database on board. In about a minute the device obtained it's position from the satellites (3 in all). At this point, it's point and shoot and it tells you the name of the object once it gets a fix, if it gets a fix.

Conclusion, the 'bright objects' are, in fact, Venus and Sirius.

I'm not trying to dis those who have seen UFOs, we have seen them also, there are many in this area. As for what the 'mystery object(s)' is/are, that would be Sirius and Venus.

If anyone can provide their lat/long and tell me wherewhen to look and is convinced they are seeing something else, I'd love to hear from you. I love the mystery as much as anyone but we're going to have to go from facts because I'm just not seeing anything unnatural here.
