Does This "poem" Mean My Kid's Depressed???
I found this half ass hidden in my computer. My fifteen year old son wrote it I suppose. He's becoming quite a handful these days and I just worry about him is all. What do you guys make of this?? Should I be worried? (I am already).

"The Machine Rolls On

On and on
Since the Revolution of Agriculture
We've seen what they've taken
We want what what they've got
Sit at night and pray
That it will all just go away
Burn it to the ground
Start again some other day

New rules we cant even think of
were so set in our ways
I want to rule the world so that...
wait what if I betray

Endless thoughts that go nowhere
maybe its all made that way
that if your mind wanders into the dark
what you think you cant say
words dont fit the whole of it all
the grind the fight the will to survive
is now all that keeps a man alive"

Re: Does This "poem" Mean My Kid's Depressed???
I wouldn't be worried at all..When I was his age, I used to write a lot of poetry..It was just a way to release all of the random feelings running through my mind..Some of it was dark, some was comical..but I was never suicidal, or felt that way when I wrote, but obviously not knowing your son, I couldn't know for certain

The poem is pretty good by the way

Sounds like a 15 year old that is trying to find his way in this strange world. I wouldn't worry, just ask him how he's doing.

Heres another one that I cannot make anything out of. The kid has a little girlfriend but damn.. Can shit like this really be inside a 15 year old kids head??

I think I should talk to someone...

"Light up the day"

See your face
Gotta push myself to move
Pry my body from my bed
Sometimes baby I wish I was dead
Wonder if I was meant for this world.

See your face
Dont know what you see in this strange man
what a waste I think
sit in the shower and wish for tears that never come
is it because Im tough or because Im numb?

But you light up the day,
my closest friend,
you beleive what I cannot see yet
but here comes the day
here comes the day
here comes the day that I can.

Really?....

Honestly it just worries the hell out of me..
Very dark I think. I will definatly have to have a talk with him, because I definatly don't remember having ANY concerns like this when I was 15.

He is a kindof "weird" kid though.. In a good way.

I just dont want anything to happen to him that I could have helped him with...

You should take heart in knowing that your son possesses the insight and philosophical nature to contemplate the nature of his environment and to see the world as it really is instead of completely fall victim to zombie culture and propaganda.

How else do you expect one, at an age when it is normal to begin to question the true nature of self, to react naturally to the wonders and horrors of the world as we know it... without some sort of personal outlet? Writing is akin to therapy during this time.

He will be fine... if he is accepted, supported, and appreciated by those who love him, instead of being regarded as one who has something wrong with him such as depression. In the latter case, he will only feel forced to withdrawal further.

Well, this is the last one I can find.. they're scattered around in different folders, ive been looking in games I know he plays pretty often.. just for kicks I will post this last one because I think it's pretty interesting.. so uh... here you go..

"Ticket the Homeless"

I saw a man on the corner
of Antoine and 290,
he was begging for money
I sat next to him and offered him some of mine
He told me the state had rolled by and given him a note
that said he had to go and pay a fine
for asking for help,
the state would teach him a lesson, oh yes
take the money he does not have, justice oh yes

A man had come in his big shiny cruiser
just because the beggar was hard to look at
he was a bother, to those that drove past
they say it's illegal to ask a man for cash
yes, hes a bother to those that drive past

But I see the truth. real fast..

To slap the broken, to gouge at the poor
without so much as a roof or a fucking door.
I am sick at my stomache, the pigs fly through
probably laughing at his tattered clothes and dirty hair do
riding away with another man in the back
who walked to his mailbox, with a beer

thats against the rules you know.
whos fucking rules I say?
Oh dear God I pray, fix this cancerous world
please God one day, take all this ice away
dont let it come to what Im going to say
guns bringing silver bullets
held by patriots with mullets
they fly at the speed of sound
screaming vengance

for the years and years of this

Like a former poster mentioned, he's way beyond his years. I wouldn't be worried, he's elequently wording thoughts I didn't have until I was in college.

Buy him some books. Kurt Vonnegut would be a nice start.

Yeah you're right.
I think after you guys were bragging on him I kindof got a little pride there..

I shouldn't be doing this at all.

I am still concerned for him as he is my only son, my only child. I will have a talk with him and try to be as understanding as I can be as a over protective psycho parent...

I was wrong to post that last one I think, and for that I apologize. I will make sure to let him know I did that too, even if It's uncomfortable.

I'm just worried is all. I love my son.

That one gave me the chills!!
Your son is an excellent writer, an empath, and a very deep thinker!!
There is nothing wrong with him! I wrote much much darker things when I was his age. It's a form of therapy. Writing helps to order chaotic thoughts. It is normal and healthy. You should be proud that your son is intelligent and trying to understand this world that he will soon be facing head on as an adult. All teenagers have similar inner conflicts and many of them try to escape it through materialism and substance abuse. Be happy that your son is facing his internal issues and trying to working through them in a thoughtful and mature way. Please do not look at your son through media induced eyes. He is your son. Look at him through his mother's eyes and see him for what he truly is... a talented and unique addition to the fabric of humanity.

Re: Does This "poem" Mean My Kid's Depressed???
hey! you're a GREAT parent you know that?! your concern over what those poems might indicate about your sons inner feelings and how you want to be there for him.. that proves it. i mean, i don't know anything else about you, but this shows that you really CARE.

just.. spend time with him, laugh together.. and get him to talk openly with you. don't try to impose your ideas and viewpoints of those problems onto him, at least not right away. really listen to him and try to understand HIS point of view.

You love your son, you should let him know that and that you don't think he's crazy. He's not merely 'wise beyond his years' but wiser than most on the evolutionary scale so it seems. Please keep in mind that such is ostracizing amongst his peers.

Even though reading his poetry here seems a bit voyeuristic and an invasion of privacy, at least you could let him know the people here dig his writing!

Re: Does This "poem" Mean My Kid's Depressed???
lol u might want to give him a little space / privacy..

its nice that you are concerned which is a good thing.. but dont forget too you have to allow him freedom otherwise he will become dependent on your protection rather than learning to protect himself

dont ask things like "are you ok?" if at that moment u think he's depressed cause it might give him the idea that u think he's depressed which will make him think that u are looking at him as if something is wrong with him

better just to show him your thoughts and feelings for him through regular interaction :)

Are you snooping in his stuff? Are you breaching his trust?
Was his thoughts/poems intended to be shared on the net?

Wisdom cannot be accounted to age, but rather his/her ability too see beyond the veil of "society". IMO I think his poems is far beyond his age.

I would be more concerned about your own motives for posting this, than for posting it as "personal worry". Maybe you don't understand his patterns of thoughts, or have the ability to "deep think" the way he does.

If I was your son, and found out what you now have done by posting this (without his consent I guess?), I would have felt utterly betrayed and would have distanced me further away from you...

I find you egocentric, veiling your inability to understand your sons eloquence in describing the unfairness he finds in this world, - with "concern" for his well being.

I, for one don't support you in this, and hope that you will ask the mods to remove this post so your son doesn't find it accidentally.

DO NOT - whatever you do - please do not dope him up with anti-depressants. not only will they poison him and wreck his health, they will kill this amazing talent.

i hope you tell him everyday how amazing he is.

HE'S ALSO LIFTING CHUNKS OF SONG LYRICS, ALTHOUGH HE MAY NOT BE AWARE OF IT.
