nomuse (NLI) User ID: 605062 United States 01/31/2009 07:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | do one thing, grow some wings and try flying to the moon, may be you would escape earths gravitational pull without rocket propellants stuck to ur ass. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 440620Drat. You inspired me for a moment. Then I saw it couldn't work. Orbital velocity is several times higher than the speed of sound in atmosphere. Propellers (and by extension wings) can not develop thrust when the object propelled by them has exceeded the speed of sound in the local medium (see "cavitation" for similar problem in submarines). So no mechanical method can generate sufficient velocities to achieve orbit. Doesn't mean you can't use air-breathers. But I suspect that in a ramjet, the energy expended to accelerate the incoming air eventually exceeds the thrust advantage of using that air as a propellant. So, no birds. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 551743That reminds me of a girl I once knew......... birds need air to fly A more accurate statement might read, "Birds need air to live." When not alive, the task of achieving flight is problematic for most birds. |
