MMR doctor Andrew Wakefield fixed data on autism
THE doctor who sparked the scare over the safety of the MMR vaccine for children changed and misreported results in his research, creating the appearance of a possible link with autism, a Sunday Times investigation has found.

Confidential medical documents and interviews with witnesses have established that Andrew Wakefield manipulated patients’ data, which triggered fears that the MMR triple vaccine to protect against measles, mumps and rubella was linked to the condition.

The research was published in February 1998 in an article in The Lancet medical journal. It claimed that the families of eight out of 12 children attending a routine clinic at the hospital had blamed MMR for their autism, and said that problems came on within days of the jab. The team also claimed to have discovered a new inflammatory bowel disease underlying the children’s conditions.

However, our investigation, confirmed by evidence presented to the General Medical Council (GMC), reveals that: In most of the 12 cases, the children’s ailments as described in The Lancet were different from their hospital and GP records. Although the research paper claimed that problems came on within days of the jab, in only one case did medical records suggest this was true, and in many of the cases medical concerns had been raised before the children were vaccinated. Hospital pathologists, looking for inflammatory bowel disease, reported in the majority of cases that the gut was normal. This was then reviewed and the Lancet paper showed them as abnormal.

Despite involving just a dozen children, the 1998 paper’s impact was extraordinary. After its publication, rates of inoculation fell from 92% to below 80%. Populations acquire “herd immunity” from measles when more than 95% of people have been vaccinated.

Last week official figures showed that 1,348 confirmed cases of measles in England and Wales were reported last year, compared with 56 in 1998. Two children have died of the disease.

With two professors, John Walker-Smith and Simon Murch, Wakefield is defending himself against allegations of serious professional misconduct brought by the GMC. The charges relate to ethical aspects of the project, not its findings. All three men deny any misconduct.

Through his lawyers, Wakefield this weekend denied the issues raised by our investigation, but declined to comment further.

Lets just say your facts are accurate. Autism, like ADD, and PTSD, have gone from a very narrow definition to a very, very broad one, to the point that everyday, what used to be NORMAL activity, can be considered one of these diseases, behaviors, what have you.

Secondly, the reason Amish children don't have it is because Amish kids get the shit beat out of them if they act up. They are, daily give purpose, thus giving them focus and a means to use both their creative and logical brains. They don't sit in front of the TV/Computer/Game console all day like zombie and then are expected to perform well in their studies, to be obedient and to eat and sleep well and in routine.

Risperidone/risperidal is some nasty shit, for a lack of better words.

I have done the research. I don't understand why so many people are offended by this. Most on here don't approve of the drug industry, of the current state of medicine or psychology, why is it when Autism comes up, this perspective changes?

Just do a Google, or whatever you favorite search engine search for how they diagnose Autism, or hell just look up how it is defined and you will understand that, at least currently, it is so far from a physiological disorder, but rather could easily be misdiagnosed as something else.

I even mention it, for one, in hopes that we can have a real discussion about it instead of all the hype that is is cause d by this or that.

Secondly, to understand just how destructive the current treatments are. They can literally alter the chemical balance of the brain and in the hopes of treatment create and permanently altered child/person without any signs of life, the irony being that they can become less Autistic and more "Zombie" like.

Finally, fuck you AC, tired of cock suckers like you. As I have said tons of times, you have something to say, say it. You want to bring it, then bring it!

Neo, sorry man, but I doubt that most two and three year olds are suffering psychological or personality disorder issues, which is what you are implying with use of the phrase "behavioral and not physiological".

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you understand that many physiological problems, especially with children who do not have developed language skills, manifest as behavioral responses, yes?

I was clearly showing how any outside influence can alter a child's perspective, be that a negative or positive influence. The problem I have with the current definition/diagnosis of Autism, is that, much like other "mental" disorders, it has a very narrow view of what is acceptable or "normal" and anything outside that must be altered to fit. Even if by adding or removing certain influences can get subject closer to the suggested vision of "normal".

Their is a whole industry and endless books, studies and marketing targeting 3 year old based on the concept that this is when they start to remember things. When they start to develop social behaviors and emotional responses other than those based on survival.

A 3 year old attitude, behavior, appetite can all be affected by abuse, neglect, lack of sleep, poor diet, starvation, not to mention the endless possible diseases.

All of which can give a 3 year old changes that can reflect that current definition/diagnosis of Autism.

THERE IS NO TEST FOR AUTISM.

It is all based on observation. This can change from doctor to doctor. The standard is not followed. Just like other so-called "behavior" issue, your general prac. can diagnose and prescribe the medicine.

Hey Tim, I'm not one for use of chemicals in treatment, so this is an exception for me, but may I suggest using petroleum jelly?

After a bath or shower, apply it to the entire toenail and then wear socks.

This method has successfully eradicated toenail fungus suffered by both my father and a close friend where all prescribed medicines failed.

Basically, using common sense, a young kid that does not and has never communicated with meaningful sentences or gestures and likes to rock or stand around counting the threads in a carpet while blabbering nonsensical, repetitive phrases or words. Sure, there are checklists to formally use after you look them up in a book, but the initial diagnosis is by good observation and sufficint funds of experience.

Exactly the problem, you are relying on the "common sense" of a bunch of doctors who went to tons of different medical schools, in a bunch of different states and or countries.

Furthermore, you have just proven to me what everyone seems to thing Autism. The vast majority of diagnosed children are nothing like what you are talking about.

Again, just like the kids with ADHD, that are just kids with a lot of energy. A child with a poor diet, neglect at home, etc, can and are diagnosed with Autism, a physiological disorder!

Again, the majority of kids who are said to be Autistic do not "stand around counting the threads in the carpet while blabbering nonsensical, repetitive phrases or words." They are very aggressive or very distant, but so are tons of kids, including Amish, as someone brought up.

Re: MMR doctor Andrew Wakefield fixed data on autism
There is not former or current diagnosis criteria, that is what I have been trying to say, over and over. Even the Autism Society of America or whatever it is called, says this, jeez, you drive me crazy.

Answer me this, why do you defend it so? Why do all of you? Because Hollowood does now?

God damn you are a defensive fuck. I haven't defended shit. I am trying - as my posts reflect - to understand your position and your research...quite appropriately with questions, which apparently "drive you crazy".

You don't want to educate, fine. I'll leave your "it's all about agreeing with Neo without questions" thread. No prob at all.

I'm sure you are very familiar with risperdal, aren't you, neo?

Yeah, like I said, sell the hell out of it.
But yeah, lets not continue the discussion just throw it in the fucking trash because you clearly can't make your point, or better for all, move the discussion forward for real change and hope. No why would you do that, when you can just be a prick.
