Hyperforin Binds to the Pregnane X Receptor causing a massive induction of drug and herb metabolizing CYP3A4 CLick here for a picture of hyperfoin, the chemical found in St Johns Wort: [link to en.wikipedia.org] |

Now i can barely feel anything else. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 614270you better not take St Johns Wort if you are on any other herbs or drugs this stuff is a stronger CYP inducer than tegretol St Johns will totally murder birth control and render it uneffective as well as other drugs they should put a warning on the lable in vivo and in vitro both show its a strong inducer of CYP3A4 Man when i take st johns wort, i can barely feel my tramadol, and caffeine which normally makes me anxious and stimulated cant even effect me, I used it for a while and it does calm one down...but it made my eyes so sensative that I have to get off of it. |

I take Tramadol for pain. So if I stop the st johns wart I can expect it to be more effective? I thought the st johns helped normalized liver function. I thought it would aid in liver metabolism. I do not understand technical terms like CYP inducer. Perhaps there is a safe middle ground. I am a male, so birth control is not a worry- guess it makes sense, the wart seems to help the liver resist inflamation, so there must be an action it has on meds- lessening their effect, in essence, wekening them, allowing them to pass out with the other toxins. just askin.... |

[link to en.wikipedia.org] [link to en.wikipedia.org] scroll down to inducers this is not just in tons of medical journals, but anyone can tell with first hand experience, they can notice the difference when taking St Johns, how their CYP enzymes go up in production and that in turn metabolizes other things they take much faster. |
