OP is right. One time we had a cow who, after calving, kept pushing and pushed her whole uterus right out into the great outdoors. Yuk. The vet came and asked for -- sugar ! After thoroughly washing the inside-out uterus with antiseptic solution (you can imagine everything that was sticking to it), we lifted it up and laid it on a tarp and completely coated it with sugar. The sugar shrunk the inflamed tissues enough so that they could be stuffed back inside the cow, and also served to help prevent infection. Surprisingly enough, the cow survived . . .
