China protests after Russian warship sinks cargo vessel


China and Russia were embroiled in a diplomatic spat Friday over the Russian military's sinking of a Chinese cargo ship.

The China Daily reported Thursday that seven sailors are still missing after a Russian warship shot 500 automatic cannon rounds into the New Star last Saturday in stormy seas off Vladivostok. Three Chinese crew members were rescued.

The incident was not reported by either Russian or Chinese authorities until Thursday.
