UFO Crash: Llandrillo, Wales, UK, (Berwyn Mts.) 1974

On the 23rd of January, 1974, an extraordinary event took place in Llandrillo, North Wales, United Kingdom. On a winter's night, a great terrible noise was heard by many of the village, and the first thing that came to mind was that there had been an explosion of some type. As some of the villagers went outside to see what had occurred, they were amazed by the scene of blue and orange lights near the mountain of Cader Bronwen.
From witness statements, and the next day's press, came this explanation, "There was a huge explosion a few minutes after 8:30 P. M. From various accounts, this preceded, some say by up to two or three minutes, a violent shaking of the ground, like a medium-sized earthquake - objects inside houses were knocked off shelves."

In a very similar scenario to the Kecksburg crash, authorities rushed to the scene; police first, followed by Royal Air Force personnel. Immediately, the area around the crash was cordoned off with nobody allowed to enter. This operation seemed like overkill; the area being so remote, and uninhabited. This search and rescue lasted for several days in the Berwyn Mountains.

One witness, who was working at a hotel in Bala, stated that a group of men had arrived at the hotel, and stayed several days. They were involved in the operations at the crash site, but refused to answer any questions about the activities there. One of the most compelling accounts of the events in Wales came from a lady who was a nurse living at Llanderfel.

She was asked by local police to assist in a plane crash near her house. Gathering her things together, and not having any one to watch her teenage daughters, she took them with her to the location given by the police. She was driving on B4391, which goes from Bala to Llangynog. The road was nearly deserted, being at 10:00 PM on a cold, wintry night. As she proceeded up into the mountains, she was astonished at what she saw next...

There was an object "quite intact" which was large, circular, and glowing an orange color. Her and her two daughters were within a few hundred feet of it. She could not be mistaken at what she saw, a UFO. She could also see police and military personnel, which were much closer to the UFO. They instructed her to leave the area, even after she explained why she was there. Afraid for her and her daughter's safety, she left without argument. Authorities escorted her from the site.

The roads around the site of the unusual object stayed closed for a number of days afterwards. The nurse talked to some of the local shepherds who complained that they were not even allowed to tend their flocks. She and others were convinced of a military and governmental cover up of what really happened on January 23, 1974 near the Berwyn Mountains. Was the explosion a mechanical failure of the orange glowing craft, or did another UFO crash. Will we ever know?

Maybe the Welsh valleys and mountans are concealing somthing anomolous; Wales certainly seems a hotspot fo UFO activity.

OP is full of shit. Tunnel boring machinery wasn't in use when the damn was being built. Tunnels were dug with blasting and hauling.

Snowdonia, it all makes sense! Last week i was doing some work for the DVLA in Swansea when a 'strange glow' cam from the north, its the base isn't it..

I've spent the best part of 20 years camping in the valley by Llyn Gwynnant, right below Snowdon. Despite being an avid sky watcher and spending countless days in the area, I have yet to see a single anomolous event.

If I was going to pick somewhere to build a secret UFO base, I certainly wouldn't choose Snowdonia, as it's swarming with walkers and climbers all year round.

Tunnel Boring Machines weren't in use in the 70s and 80s? TBMs have been in use since 1845!

BTW TBMs were used in the project, but it's true that the giant cavern that holds the main generators was carved out via blasting.

I wouldn't limit UFO activity to Snowdon, my friend was just pointing out that Snowdon leads into a subterranean alien/military compound, which he believes may extend to the Cambrian mountains and also Cornwall.

THE Sun’s exclusive report of UFOs over Wales has echoed around the world this week.

But strange beings in the principality are nothing new. Ancient legends tell of flying giants and a wizard moving huge stones through the air.

Now UFO experts are wondering if the stories passed down from the mists of time could be garbled accounts of out-of-this-world visits thousands of years ago.

Wales has long been known as a land of myths. Its very name marked it out as different. The word Wales comes from the old German “Walha”, meaning “stranger”.

Humans have lived there for around 30,000 years, and from the very beginning it was home to odd practices.

The country’s oldest complete human remains are the Red Lady Of Paviland, a 26,000-year-old dyed skeleton found in the Gower peninsula in 1823.

Despite its name, the skeleton is of a young man.

He was probably a chieftain with religious powers as he was buried with jewellery made from ivory and seashells – and a mammoth’s head. Archaeologists think he wore it to ward off evil spirits.

Certainly the people believed that spirits – good and bad – were everywhere. By the time of the Roman conquest the Welsh were ruled by Druids who believed trees, hills and streams were in some way living spirits that needed to be kept happy.

They especially worshipped mistletoe as it “miraculously” bore fruit in midwinter and so was taken as a sign of immortality. The tradition lives on in English-speaking countries where mistletoe is hung at Christmas – a custom almost unknown anywhere else.

The world’s best-known wizard, Merlin, comes from Welsh literature. It claims he magically shifted the bluestones of the Preseli hills 160 miles east to form Stonehenge.

Merlin also became the centre of the tales of Camelot and King Arthur’s Knights of the Round Table. Most of the tales are pure fiction, popularised by 12th century Welsh clergyman Geoffrey of Monmouth.

Yet, surprisingly, the character of Merlin is based on a historical figure, Myrddin Wyllt, otherwise known as Ambrosius Aurelianus.

He was a fifth-century general who led a combined British and Roman force to victory over invading Germans.

Myrddin, to use his Welsh name, was said to have been so upset by the carnage of war that he later lived as a hermit in a wood.

Stories of his miraculous powers and quick temper multiplied until Geoffrey collected and published them. He changed the wizard’s name to Merlin as “Myrddin” sounded too like the French word “merde” – or poo!

In Merlin’s wake came a deluge of other mystical tales.

Mount Snowdon, Britain’s second highest point, was thought to be the home of flying giants, which UFO investigators interpret as sightings of visiting aliens.

Crop circles shot to international attention when they started appearing in large numbers around Stonehenge and other parts of south west England in the late 1970s. But there had been a similar outbreak in north Wales in the summer of 1941.

The circles were variously blamed on war-time evacuees and saboteurs – but no one was caught. If, as some believe, the circles are caused by landing UFOs or by aliens trying to communicate, Wales may have been one of the earliest sites chosen.

The nation’s most famous symbol is the red dragon, which is said to have defeated an invading white rival.

Legend has it that during their epic battle the two dragons were tricked into a pit, where they were quickly buried.

Later they were released by Merlin when he was still a boy, their battle resumed, and the red dragon triumphed.

As well as dragons, Wales also had its own version of Ireland’s leprechauns, known as the Coraniaid. They were said to be mischievous little people, a bit like the Hobbits of The Lord Of The Rings.

Legend had it that they were eventually wiped out by a plague of insects sent by the King of France.

It has been speculated that the Coraniaid story is based on the people who lived in Britain before the arrival of the Celts, who were to become the Welsh.

They were smaller stature than their Celtic conquerors and were probably driven from all the best areas to live before finally being wiped out.

In our more scientific age, few people believe in dragons, giants or evil spirits.

But could today’s UFOs be the same phenomenon that our ancestors saw and struggled to explain all those years ago?
