Beaking: Dutch foodbank runs out of stock
link, in dutch:
[link to www.voedselbank.nl]

Rough translation:
The Dutch foodbank is rapidly running out of stock and sounds the alarm. The amount of customers seeking help has risen 20% the last 2 months, but the suppliers are running behind.
The content of the packets distributed is decreased already, says founder Clara Sies of Voedselbank Nederland.
"Normally, a food packet consists of 6 to 9 basic components, with further components added by the local food banks. But this week we were only able to supply 3 basic components nationally. Probably this will be reduced to no component at all from next week on."
Sies expects the problem to get more severe.
"More people will lose their jobs and will call us for help. But we are almost out of resources."

That is serious- and from a country that has been doing better than others.. just shows you, "what is better" in this sort of crash.

Where will it end?

Back in 2007 around 13000 people used the services of the Dutch foodbanks (on a total population of 16.4 million) so don't think this is comparable to for example American food stamps. Also the Dutch government doesn't support foodbanks due to the already extensive social safety nets in place (they are mostly used by addicts or people on welfare that are heavily in debt).

So either a lot more drug-addicts have showed up or more debt with people on welfare...

Food banks are in dire straits in US. New faces that have never been on the dole are showing up as more and more job losses occur. It is sad. We try to send a little something to the local food bank near us. We are rural and in a very poor county, the food bank said in November that they had a 40% increase. Not sure what it is now. Sadly this is what we have world wide....hunger. Thank you Banksters and Wall Street whining faggots or maggots

well, reputation is that also Germany has an extensive social nets, but that's all a lie, many people receive nothing although legally eligible and they have to live from trash cans

To be honest in most cases it is because they are junks and refuse to live in a normal home (or are here illegally). There are some cases in which you can be homeless for a month or 2 at most (long live bureaucracy). And yes I have talked to enough homeless to have enough of an understanding about it.

Seriously even a homeless receives an income of ~650 euros from the government. If they do decide to start living in a home it goes up (not to mention you get other benefits).

Holland's "social net" has been cut-back more and more over the Balkenede years... Things could indeed go bad, real quick, in the low-lands...
