the constitution has to be amended from time to time.

After all, the original consititution allowed slavery and women couldn't vote.

The 13th amendment and the 19th amendment took care of both of those issues, along with a civil war about the slavery thing.

Re: Enlighten Me. Why does America have ammendments to the Constitution?
The Constitution was complete as it was written. However, many of the States weren't satisfied that the Congress, the Administrative branch and the Judicial branch were not going to follow the spelled out law and intent of the Constitution -- that is, the Constitution specified what, and only what, the Federal government was to do. It was to do NOTHING else!

So the States said that they would ratify the Constitution only if the limits of the Federal government were even more clearly spelled out -- and what rights the People and the States did NOT give to the Federal government.

Thus the first 10 Amendments, which were ratified at the same time as the original Constitution.

As history shows, the dissenters to the original Constitution were entirely correct in that the Federal government has since done everything in their power to subvert the original Constitution and the 10 Amendments.

The creators of the constitution knew that it would change. That's why they set up rules to change the constitution. But they made it extremely difficult to do so.

Thank you!

I love the constitution. But it instituted slavery, which they knew was a problem.

The storm is closing in to begin again from the beginning. Never sitting through my waking life oblivious. The ignorance running rampant through the city is indicative of something worse; this picture isn't pretty.
