Most of the great rock music was created in the late 60's to mid 80's, what happened after that?

Bewteen the 60's and late 80's, Western civilisation was ruled by optimism & ideologies.

Somehow & paradoxically, western civilisation became depressed soon after the soviet union collapse.

The x generation became obcessed with depressive soup, and today, even nihilism is out of reach of the y generation.

On this rare occasion I will agree with JADR. Something happened along the way and all the white bands, like Metallica, seem to be filled with rage. I'm not feeling any love in any of it. IMHO, there was a bright spot in the early 90's country music, and since then, it's been dead. It's kind of like I felt in the early 60's with the folk band music that displaced the great 50's music and it lasted until the Beatles arrived. This time, the bad music seems to be going on and on and on.

Its over-production.

Analog recording always sounds grainier and has more feel. I listen to vinyl more than digital recordings and mp3's because of this.

I am recording a cd right now and production is too easy with all the programs we have. we can literally take a "so-so" riff and over-work it and make it sound so dynamic that you are more impressed by the quality of the recording than you are with the song itself.

so many bad bands that can sell records and make money are brought into the studio and there music is given digital-steroids. Thats my opinion on why music sounds worse even though the technical aspects are way better any more...

And you do not know the answer? Drugs, sex, and R&R? Aids, Minorities, Women's Rights, etc. Same thing that is still going on today. Just ask the government, EEO, and Civil Rights Organizations.

And any music gets tiring after awhile.

Before that was Elvis, Early Rock (in which case some people died in plane crashes), Ink Spots (a group), along with the one song you hear in "Back to the Future" movie - Mr. Sandman.

Downing the music along with what it stood for, and groups fading out (probably due to people having kids and working jobs and not haveing time like nowadays) and the problems of the socialness of anything.

And people changing priorities, just like in the '80's a recession blamed on Pres. Reagan, and other things that others do not like and actually hate.

New York lawyers, shut down of playing music without paying a fee because it is intellectual property Rights, and musicians want all of their pay also.

Things of that nature, still being done today. Less local music bands, less drinking, less smoking, less, less, less, less till nowadays.

Getting off of living off of the government for welfare people, and other things that changed. Free college for awhile in California in the '80's. Ain't doing them any good nowadays with the debt. Attitudes and making things complex instead of keeping it simple.

No bands lasted that long anyway, except some to make it big and some people playing their music. Disco came out also in the late'70's and early 80's for awhile, because most people do not have any music inclination in them anyway, and well, you know, you can get the energizer bunny and have the bass drum beat of disco.

Everything gets old after awhile.

Then came disco. That is when the music died.

It didn't go away. New technology made finding it difficult (or easier depending on how one looks at it) or more diffuse. There are many bands all over the place.

Why do apple recordings sound the best?

the 60's was good with the beatles and stones but the 80's sucked,hair bands and glame rock,lol. The 90's was a great time in music with the return of real quality rock that came with the alternative movement.

there have been others but those few years stand out.

The end of the band and the onset of corporate controled musicians. Having a lot of money invested in a band is risky....Keith Moon Croaks....Gilmore and Waters hate each others guts...etc etc....something happens to one member?...no more band. Now if you have someone like lets say Brtiney or Madonna....who are the lead guitarists or drummers for them?...some scale musicians who are faceless...and if they piss anyone off? Bye and nobody even knows they were replaced. Most any bands now?....they are all frontman bands...one key guy and other members far down the totem pole...they won't be lippin off or smashing up any hotel rooms...or the next guy with enough hair products, peircings and crappy tats steps right in and nobody cares.....

Death Metal is the natural progression of rock and roll music.

It was however suppressed by mtv and the like, so it went underground.

Its out there.
