I´m more bothered about the front heading towards europe, I gather that is the weather that has just left the US east coast.

That is not a glare, it is a consequence of the attempt to project a sphere onto a flat surface.

Yes "village idiot" is an appropriate name. There are already at least two other threads discussing this, but you didn´t think it worth checking before starting ANOTHER!

Anyway, it´s just a glitch in the software that builds the images for that web site. It´s not a real object, weather system, or anything else. Just a program bug.
