Kanigo2 User ID: 442313 United States 03/12/2009 05:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Usually 2.2 to 2.4 volts per cell-- For example if you have what you feel is a regular car battery, it contains 6 individual cells. You can of course any current whatsoever and the cells will charge, But ineffect what you are trying to do is cause a chemical reaction to turn lead sulfide that is on the lead plates, back into sulfuric acid in a solution and lead on the plates. you can of course show as much current as you like into it, except the reaction can become unstable and "short out" between the perforated and solid lead plates, usually leading to an explosion of just a dead cell. On average, the best thing to consider is how long you have to charge, If you have overnight, allow it to trickle charge from 2-5 amps. If you need it right now(in the next 10 to 15 minutes), dump 50-70 amps. Alt+F4 Allows GodLikeProductions User to Check Current score in Thread Dialog. Look at the mfr's spec to determine the best charge cycle for battery life. Some will take a 'boost' charge cycle but it's easy to damage the cell/s and or degrade the battery's effective life. |

what? User ID: 630264 United States 03/12/2009 09:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ok so maybe 15-16 volts. but how much amperes do you need to charge a deep cycle battery? si this what determines how fast you can charge a battery. please someon help me Quoting: Anonymous Coward 633617I think you can find all your technical answers better served on an electronics website. There are some really terrific ones with chat and blogs. But you are getting technical advice on GLP? Yikes you are a glutten for punishment now aren't you? |

I just explained, everything he needs to know, a couple hours ago. Its not how much current, Its the chemical reaction. "Hey by the way" It is a chemical change that creates a battery, Its only, 200 year old technology".--at least.. Interdimensional Warrior User ID: 64506650 United States 10/25/2014 03:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You need a higher voltage on the charger output than the battery is rated for but not more than 20% higher. 14.8v is pretty much standard for a 12v charger. Deep cycle batteries last longest if they are completely or nearly completely discharged before charging, and the amperage of the charging process should be less than or @equal to the discharge rate. Generally speaking, lower charge rates translate into longer battery life.10 amps is about right for a 400ah deep cycle battery, and a full recharging will take 40 hrs. If the battery is used for trolling motors and such, 20 amps is fine, and a battery will fully charge overnight. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 52154903 United States 10/25/2014 03:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Depends upon the battery (chemistry used to build it, voltage, and amperage capacity). One can recharge many types (chemistry used to build it) of batteries, but not all. Even Alkaline Batteries can be recharged if you have the proper type of recharger, but usually only about 80% of their former capacity which limits them to being recharged to about 4 times since after that the energy being stored isn't worth the effort. (for Alkalines ONLY use a battery charger designed for them ... used to be sold at Wal-Mart etc. about 15 years ago, but now very very hard to find. If you use another type of charger with Alkalines they CAN EXPLODE, which is a mess because of all the BAD chemicals that get spewed out) First determine the TYPE of battery you have ... and then get a charger that specifically supports charging THOSE types of batteries. (overcharging, or charging at the wrong voltage or wrong charge rate can ruin the battery ... or even cause it to EXPLODE) |
