Six Flags Inc., the owner of Great Adventure in Jackson and 19 other theme parks, said there is substantial doubt about its ability to continue as a "going concern" unless a successful restructuring occurs.
The New York-based company has $287.5 million of Preferred Income Equity Redeemable Shares, plus accrued and unpaid dividends, due Aug. 15, it said Wednesday in a regulatory filing.
"Given the current negative conditions in the economy generally and the credit markets in particular, there is substantial uncertainty that we will be able to effect a refinancing of our debt on or prior to maturity or the PIERS prior to their mandatory redemption date," Six Flags said in the filing.
The company may have to seek a pre-packaged or pre-arranged Chapter 11 filing if it can't negotiate a restructuring agreement with the PIERS holders out of court, it said. That would likely happen "well in advance of" the PIERS maturity date, Six Flags added.
KPMG LLP, the auditors, said there is "substantial doubt" about the company's ability to continue as a "going concern," Six Flags said in the filing.
Six Flags fell 3 cents, or 14 percent, to 18 cents after the close. The shares have lost 32 percent this year.

you know, alot of these companies are just to old.
the original ideas and vigor applied is not there.
they need to die and let someone else take their place
i remember as a kid going to six flags and they had a couple attractions where a tour guide would talk to a group of about 30 or so - going through a scary river ride,
or the "haunted house"
later took my own kids there and - no tour guides.
no groups. just lines and scare rides.
taking the fantasy out of a fantasy themed park is a bad idea. |

I have alot of fond memories about going to Six Flags Over Texas in Irving when I was a young girl in the 70's. No gangs, just lots of fun in the sun. The smell of tar covered pavement baking in the hot Texas sun always brings me back. Too bad about their financial troubles. |

It does not help that the earth movements caused by Planet X have started and one of the roller coasters at Six Flags near Dallas had its tracks move.
The reason the tracks moved per the mainstream media: Heat! Yes, that is right. It was so hot that the metal on the tracks somehow melted, moved and reformed itself.
