Graphic Designer. Pricing
Hello I am Senior Graphic designer. I have only worked for other people.
Recently I lost my job and decided to do freelance. I am now a fully licensed business.

So I was wondering what is the going rate for a Graphic Designer with 8 years of experience doing freelance. If any of you can give information on where I can find out it would be appreciated.

I know but I don't know what to charge people for my services. I need some kind of pricing guide.

Thanks for you quick reply.

Charge what you think it's worth.

I don't charge less than 20 an hour, or more than 60, depending on the scale of work involved.

Well good luck to you. Have you tried actually picking up the phone and calling other graphic designers to get their rates? Have you check any professional publications. Nope, just popped onto glp to set your rates huh. Try starting at a million dollars an hour and go down from there until somebody bites. Can't believe some people own businesses. Says a lot.

Really depends on your market, your skill set, your book and your client. If your working for another agency it will be one price if your working with an "end-client" of your own it will be another.

Median range for a Graphic Designer is $45,000.00

Freelance wise it depends also on how your going to bill. Day rate? Hourly Rate? Job Costing?

Hourly I'd say around $50.00 to $60.00 per for pure design work. $15.00 or so less for studio work. Day Rate of @$500.00 +/- per day if you have the experience you say and teh book to back it...

YMMV - I pay less were I am because of the market...

Good Luck on your new adventure - I haven't had a "paycheck" since 1999 - best decision I ever named was to go out and start my own agency...

I worked with this site for a while I am a freelance 3d Artist look around at some of the adverts of people in your field looking for work. get a basic price range.

Also unless your working freelance for a big company or doing it from your house it's a good idea to get a basic freelance Contract ( a google search will do ) just to ensure you protect yourself.

I know for me, alot of times my work I will create an asset to a company or individual and sell the work to them(3d model, texture or animation). not sure if it's similar in the graphics design world.

it's tough doing freelance but sounds like you got the experience to give it a go. the hardest part is building a client base.

I charged $250 during the dot com era (well, my business did.) sigh

When I went freelance in No.Va. I charged $65/hour. Now that I'm in a small town, I would charge $25 (and with the economy.)

Take the annual salary you worked for and divide it by 2000 (number of 9 to 5 work hours in a year). This is what you were paid per hour. Take it from there. I would multiply that hourly number by 3 for starters. Then form an LLC with a trademark. Then design your own website to sport your talents. Don't use flash...lots of people have problems loading that stuff...takes too long. Use simple HTML...go light on CSS and frames....emphesize the message, not the bells and whistles....have samples on hand of your graphics prowess...YOU CAN DO IT!!!
