USAF playing cat and mouse game over Iran.
NEW YORK -- The U.S. Air Force is playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse with Iranīs ayatollahs, flying American combat aircraft into Iranian airspace in an attempt to lure Tehran into turning on air defense radars, thus allowing U.S. pilots to grid the system for use in future targeting data, administration officials said.

"We have to know which targets to attack and how to attack them," said one, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The flights, which have been going on for weeks, are being launched from sites in Afghanistan and Iraq and are part of Bush administration attempts collect badly needed intelligence on Iranīs possible nuclear weapons development sites, these sources said, speaking on condition of strict anonymity.

"These Iranian air defense positions are not just being observed, theyīre being ītemplated,ī" an administration official said, explaining that the flights are part of a U.S. effort to develop "an electronic order of battle for Iran" in case of actual conflict.

Looks like thier trying to provoke the Iranianīs into a fight, for justification.

If they canīt goad the Iranians into reacting, theyīll have to resort to plan B: false-flag terror attack on US soil.

BFN argues persuasively that the Iran huff and puff is just Bush bluffing... that the US military is to seriously stretched to engage in a new adventure.

All this is cover for the disaster that is Iraq

"Bush administration attempts collect badly needed intelligence on Iranīs possible nuclear weapons development sites"

lmao

just buy the data from hungry russians.

in all seriousness tho, the US maintains a combat ready state to fight 2 major wars and a number of contingencies simultaneously... Iraq and Afghanistan are contingencies (at least nowdays)... I think the bulk of any spearhead into Iran would be led by the Israelis with support from US forces if needed. The US intel would aid Israeli planners. The US forces would be more concerned watching over and pacifying Syria. Commanders on the ground already have a greenlight to enter Syrian territory for combat ops if situation presents itself on the ground...

Britain is standing down on the iran war effort and Germany and France will unite for a conjoined DIPLOMATIC agreement-However, if say Israel launches on Iran, they might have to join with saddam, I mean bush and strike Iran then.

HMMMM

Cold Warrior is correct-most of our military is NOT in Iraq. But we are stretched with Afghanistan/Iraq/

(Korea, Venezuela,Cuba,China...so many countries, so little time)

I agree with the Israel scenario. The U.S. just canīt afford another war right now. If it was a critical situation, it could be done, but moneyīs TIGHT.

The reporter from the New Yorker who wrote the origional article saying we had intelligence inside Iran, said that we are not going to to engage in a full war. He says the neo-cons are going to just try and strategicallty attack to cripple it and that insiders in the pentagon say that BushCo actually thinks if they can cripple Iranīs military with decisive strategic attacks the people will rise up against the Iranian government.

FUCK Bush and the neo-cons.

Thanks for putting my thread back up mod.

Anyways, you know the buzz around the Iranianīs
Weapon That Could Defeat The US In The Gulf The Sunburn.
I was reading this article by a guy who studies foreign militaries for a living. Heīs studied and watched the Iranian Navy for years now and knows alot about itīs capabilities and itīs weaknesses.

he had this to say I found of interest.

1) The Iranians donīt have nuclear warheads for their SS-N-22s. If they suddenly acquire them then the entire world will know from whence they came. Russia doesnīt need that kind of headache, not for Iran anyway.

2) The Iranians do NOT have an effective means of targeting these missiles beyond visual range. They have no Over The Horizon Targeting assets worthy of the name and their radar is limited by all of the usual limitations of radar. The fact is, they have fantastic missiles but no way to get them to the target.

3) The whole "Iran will sink the U.S. Navy" theory falls apart when the U.S. Navy refuses to play Iranīs game by staying bottled up in the Persian Gulf and instead attacks and eliminates the Iranian Navy from the open ocean of the North Arabian Sea.

4)The life expectancy of the Iranian Navy is on the order of two-three days. Iranian sailors spend a large part of their time training in basic infantry tactics. This is because the naval command realizes that, should a shooting war with the U.S. start, they will quickly be out of ships.

I donīt think the russians would stand on the sidelines for that. They would rapidly deploy to critical zones, like they did near Kosovo, if you remember. I donīt have any maps, but I think US forces may be within striking range of russian systems not just in iran, but wherever russia operates. Not much geographical distance over there. I worry all this will eventually provoke russian response, but no1 will take russia seriously until she puts a boot down.

wait a second... he said īstrategicī attacks? This is quite different than surgical strikes... it implies.. well, you-know-what: Strategic Nuclear War or more benign, civillian and industrial targeting.

Re: USAF playing cat and mouse game over Iran.
Israel is the key. Right or wrong they have never allowed nuclear programs nearby in countries they consider enemies under the auspices that they could be easily modified into nuclear weapons. The point is not if Iran has nuclear weapons or will have them.Itīs the fact that Israel will bomb it themselves as they have done to other countries for what they consider their countries protection(which is just like our pre-emptive strike;Iraq and the war on terrorism). I donīt have a bias, I just look at things logically. If we donīt take out Iran, Israel will. I donīt even want to contemplate the multitude of scenarios that could play out...I just know it will. Thatīs not say I support these positions by any means.
Anyone else?

Iran nears nuclear īpoint of no returnī

Funny heard similar rhetoric from the dumb ass UK and US to start a war in Iraq!

As for Israel, they will not send in their own troops to die when the US has plenty of cannon fodder in the region....

Dream on
