rinse with water

swish around in your mouth

use a toothbrush for an aid.

water as purified as you can get

just keep swishing until you get some relief.

sometimes minutes or hours

take break

do soome more

can get chalk powder from pharmacy, seems to help, and then help cover it, if you let it dry..
 Quoting: Aikan 1494727

also, I have used aspirin, crushed it to a fine power, and apply directly.

then do the same with water, after letting it sit for awhile

if you get this stuff from the pharmacy or walmart, then do a good/adequte job, let it dry, then this will give you some relief, because it covers it,

this is what gives you relief with filling becuase just the act of covering it will give you relief.

My 21 year old son is having a horrible toothache problem and we have no money to get him to a dentist! I have used grapefruit seed extract, and MMS to try to help clear up any infection, but it is not helping. He is miserable. Can anyone give us some ideas to help him???
 Quoting: daveandshi 507371

I haven't had any luck with grapefruit seed extract for a toothache and I have tried extensively but I have had tremendous success with all mouth and head related infections with Lysine. It is fantastic. It mainly works best while you are awake. So I take 8 grams in the morning and 5 grams in the late afternoon. That is grams as in 8000 milligrams. Walgreens sells 1000 milligram tabs at a pretty decent price. They are horse pills but They do the job. You will get relief quite quickly from the infection and swelling. This is where most of the worst pain from a toothache comes from.

For tooth nerve pain there are several things that you can do to deaden it. 1. Salt water rinse. 2. Get some dent temp to fill the hole where the exposed never is. I have used it before and the dentist said he could not have done a better filling himself. Just follow the directions carfully.

For general cleaning of the infected area rinse (don't swallow) with hydrogen peroxide, It won't help the pain but does a good job helping with any exposed infection.

I have also had tremendous sucess with a water pic to get all the food particles out. They can be the cause of nasty infections occurring in crevices of cavities. I know it sounds painful but ut can be quite a relief when it is done.

Clove oil is a great relief for a toothache.

Get some Ibuprofen in his system to help the immediate pain.

Use Salt Water multiple times a day, or I just use peroxide.

It will fight infection. I swear the peroxide helps alot, I now use it about twice a week.

I have two front teeth with a crack down the center and one back half-tooth with the mercury filling half hanging out, where the tooth has broken off and just fallen out.

Re: REALLY REALLY BAD TOOTH ACHE!!! NO MONEY!! HJELP!!!
I know this is an old thread, but someone always has a tooth ache, so old is new.

My remedy for an abcess is tried and true. Put ice in a paper towel so it doesn't stick to you, and hold it on your face next to the bad tooth inside your mouth. Do this as long as you can stand it. The first round of ice is to numb the gums around the tooth.

Sterilize a pin, any kind of pin, safety pin, needle, whatever. Then, pull the lip outward, and find the reddest spot - there might be a small white or yellow spot there.
If the white spot is showing, poke it with the pin. If it isn't, find the worst of the red where it is swollen, and prick it with the pin.

Now, back to ice on the face as long as you can stand it.
Keep checking the abcessed spot after the ice melts.

It may take a few rounds of ice, and a couple of pricks at the spot with the pin, but the abcess will become blister like on the gum. Pop it, use a q-tip to squeeze out the infection.
You are golden at this point. Over the course of a day or so, you will still need to push the infection out, but there should be very little left.

Your gum will be sore. But the abcess will be gone.

Ground cloves (powder) and tea tree oil. Combine a small amount into a paste and rub over the affected area.

I had to use this remedy before deciding I best get to the dentist. Took down the swelling caused by infection.

Several years ago, my cousin died from an abscessed tooth. I remember being shocked when I found out. I never imagined something like that could kill a person.

This really could turn into a serious medical problem if it goes too long without treatment.

Start looking for a dental school or clinic that will treat your son cheaply. Or maybe you could find a dentist kind enough to treat him now and let him pay the bill in installments later.

It is important that he see a dentist soon though.

First of all I am really sorry he is suffering...tooth ache pain is horrible.

I haven't read through the thread, I am sure you will get advice to deal with the pain. My main concern is infection, that could be really bad news.

If it gets that bad they will see him in the ER and perhaps give him antibiotics and even advise where he may be able to get dental help on the cheap or for free.

If there is a dental college nearby they may be able to help you also.

Fish Zole Forte, 500 mg Metronidazole x 100 Tablets, Non-prescription
Fish Zole, 250 mg Metronidazole, 100 Tablets, Non-prescription

I have used the fish antibiotics for years, even though they say not for human consumption. I had a doctor write a prescription when I had an absessed tooth, for Cephalexin. It was the same capsule, with the same markings, made by the same company as the Cephalexin they sell for fish.

Not sure what human use the Ketoconazole would be, or the Metronidazole, although I think I read somewhere that the Metronidazole could be used for Gardia infections. Also, I tend to stay away from Tetracycline, because it goes toxic after a year, but the others are great. My doctors usually prescribe (3) 500mg. doses per day, so I get the 500 mg. bottles.
Hope this helps!

But yes, antibiotics are needed if there is an abscess.

have him take some mouthwash and hold it in his mouth on the tooth for a few minutes. (preferably listerine) it will kill the infection and cause instant relief.

if it still hurts after that take an aspirin and put it on the tooth and hold it there lightly. don't eat it. don't let it touch the sides of your cheek, it is an acid and it will eat through the nerve that is causing distress.

my brother in law who was a mechanic used to do this with battery acid on his tooth. LOL

Clove Oil....ok, we'll get it. Thanks!!!!!!!
 Quoting: daveandshi 507371

For three bucks at any pharmacy...ask for the toothache remedies that are over the counter: clove oil was 2$...benzocaine in a tube, was 3$. It works...and mouth wash has alcohol, so that kills infection inside the tooth...but, dentists will promote a penicillin to kill infection.

You can get it filled, pulled, or root canal if root is infected.

Not sure if anyone said it yet, because I don't have forever to read all the responses, but the two best things I've found are alternating between Anacin & Ibuprofen and VANILLA EXTRACT (put it on a cotton ball, squish between teeth, hold it as long as you can, and then spit. NOTE: doesn't taste anything like it smells. haha.) and the Red Cross toothache med. (it is clove oil, as far as I can tell)... Seriously, I swear by vanilla extract though.

i had teeth broken/rotted to the gumline. i used to pop my own absesses with a sewing needle. 2 things got me through until i finally had the money to fix my teeth.

1. brush with baking soda and peroxide toothpaste. it will hurt, it will hurt bad, but do it! keep going until either you pass out or you are bleeding and have managed to brush all of your teeth. focus mostly on the tooth/teeth that hurt. do this twice a day until the pain and bleeding subside.

2.GSE = grapefruit seed extract. take 20-30 drops or 2-3 tablets, i recommend the liquid/drop version. it has a horrid taste and you'll be trying to get the taste out for a good 10min. take that 3 times the first day, swish it around the first day before swallowing it. then twice a day after till you feel better. it's a natural disinfectant / antibiotic.
EDIT:
i see that you are using this already, take him to urgent care NOW! this is one of the 2-3 times i went, the infection is out of control!

google bacteremia, it is nothing to play around with. GET TO A DENTIST OR DOCTOR ASAP! the advice i gave you is what worked for me, but i could have died doing what i did. i did much more than i listed, but the 2 things i gave you were the effective treatments i used when things were controllable. 2 or 3 times i had to go to urgent care and get painkillers/novacaine and antibiotics. couldn't afford it, but they couldn't turn me away, unlike a dentist! not proud of it, but you can't improve your life if you are DEAD!

i forgot to add... ibuprophen and vicodin/hydrocodone are the best pain killing combo for toothaches.. do not take asprin or acetaminophen, you have to take soooooooo many to help you will hurt yourself and it will only scratch the surface. vicoprophen was THE best combo, but ibuprophen alone is good... some like naproxen/aleve, supposed to be equivalent to ibuprophen, but did nothing for me. my wife and brother swear by that stuff, so it's worth trying.
