The IRS just took money from my bank account
I owed them 700 in back taxes. I had been making payments, but I had to stop. Anyways, they just electronically took out the money I owed them. So helpful!

Sorry for your troubles, OP.

WHY do you keep your money in a bank?

That sucks! I've known several people who had their bank account wiped out by the IRS with no warning.

So much for due process. Someone says to your bank "I"m the IRS, give me so and so's money" the bank says, Oh yes mr. IRS man, here you go".

You have no protection if there is an error or fraud.

Hmm, didnt know the IRS could do that. I know they can intercept your paycheck, or a portion of it, have it taken from your paycheck like child support, but didnt know they could actually go into your bank account.......

I would suspect because I had a refund in the past go to an account I had at that bank, but not my main one.

Like there is anything to do about it. I owe the state more than I owe the feds, I wonder if they can do the same thing?

If you make payments to the IRS through your bank by check or ACH, you provide them with your banking information. If you have to make payments, send them a money order from the post office. They can always find out your bank info., but don't make it easy for them.

Just pay what you owe, deadbeat. No sympathy here.

Do you own a car, a computer, a DVD player, but claim you CAN'T pay your tax bill ?

I'm sure you had warning letters.

Re: The IRS just took money from my bank account
That is why you do not ever want to owe them any money. The IRS can take anything they want to. If your bank account wasn't enough, they can take your house or pension or anything else you have to pay the debt.

And even a small amount becomes a big debt because the penalties amount to 33% a year.

Nor can taxes be set aside in a bankruptcy. So if you are going to claim bankruptcy, pay the taxes on a credit card and before filing for bankruptcy.

 Quoting: mercury2

A method that offers some protection is a joint bank account with another adult (not with a spouse) where 'AND' is between the names, and both signatures are required to withdraw money from the account. Although the doctrine of coveture has been legally eliminated from statutory law, it is still in place as far as the IRS is concerned in its administration of the State's property right. Coveture means that the husband and wife are 'one person' - one slave owned by a corporate slave owner.

[link to www.wcl.american.edu]

For an 'AND' joint bank account, the owner of the account cannot be determined for garnishment. In an 'OR' joint account, either party is 100% owner.

Since all 'persons' (citizen, subject or freeman) are slaves owned by the corporate State, and the corporate UNITED STATES is the superior corporate body over the corporate States, the collection of income tax is merely the 'harvesting' of the fruits of labor of the owned slave (you). A 'disobedient slave' (one who has not accounted for - failed to file, has not turned over State property - has not paid the income tax, or has hidden State property - tax evasion) is stripped of his right to 'due process of law' under the Roman 'homo sacer' doctrine. That was called being declared 'outlaw' in the common law.

When slaves possess the slave-owner's property, which is all a slave can possess, and the slave owner desires to re-possess that property, only a demand need be issued.

Collecting )harvesting) the slave owner's property is the job of the IRS. If you look up the word 'farm or farming', you will see that the term originally meant 'tax collection'. The Apostle Matthew was a farmer.

A slave who violates the trust in possessing the slave owner's property (property right) is subject to severe punishment, including death, and the IRS is good at driving people to suicide or to starving and homeless in the cold and the dark.

I went without eating to pay my bills...and I didn't complain about it. There was a time when I first got divorced that I didn't eat for 1 week so my kids could eat. But all my bills still got paid and I lost some weight. You do what you have to do when you have responsibilties. Pay to Caeser what is Caeser's. Now I do agree that taxes all the sudden are becoming out of hand.

Re: The IRS just took money from my bank account
There was a court case just about 4 years ago wherein it was decided that it is unlawful for a bank to hand over anyone's funds to the IRS without a court order. I had a copy of the news release but can't find it now. The IRS puts a "levy" on your account and the banks foolishly hands over the money. You need to do some research this and use the law to make the bank reimburse you for their mistake in handing over any money without a court order....not any IRS tax court either...a real Federal Court Order. Bet they didn't have one.

I've looked for this info here and I can't find it, but it's true and it is LAW. No Federal Court order, no levy!
