What does a bugging system look like?
There's no reason as far as I know why someone would bug my home, but I was just cleaning up and found something really strange.
We do not have many visitors here, and none to the room this was in, so I am curious. This "thing" was just right there on the floor.
I have had a look at images of bugging devices, but none of them look like this particular one.
It's in a plastic brown oval, bit like and eye shape, an inch long by .6 inch across at widest point, and 1/4 inch deep.

The front has a circle with 5 lines in it, and the back has a small lithium battery with a tiny piece of wire extendeing to the edge of the "eye" shape, the end of which had a tiny glass bulb on it.

I do not know where this could have come from - it can't have dropped off anything I can think of. Anybody got any clues?

I'm hoping someone can tell me what it is! And also hoping it is NOT a bugging device....

Probably not a bug. Looks like a LED flashlight to me. Hard to tell without pulling it apart completely. Maybe homemade, because anything commercial would be protected a little better. It's possible it's half of something else, that separated.

Re: What does a bugging system look like?
Here's an example of what I'm thinking:

[link to www.photonlight.com]

It's about the size of someone's thumb, but they make them that size because if they're too small they're a pain to handle. Other companies probably make them much smaller, and one company (I can't remember the name) makes them so small the battery is the largest part of the thing, you just clip the battery onto them, and that's your light.

Not saying it can't be a bug, but it doesn't have any real listening apparatus, from the video. The way to check would be to pull it apart (you'll likely destroy it) and see if there's a microphone assembly on, or connected to the board. Also, if you see more than one or two small chips, it's suspicious.

Anything too perfect, and it likely wouldn't be just laying there.

I'm thinking it was probably the other half of a keychain, and it broke off when someone got ready to leave and pulled their car keys out their pocket or purse. The other half is probably still connected to their keys.

Thanks Falldown - I did pull it apart and it was just two wires which culminated in the tiny bulb.
