Quoting: CelticLegendsI'm not that interested in whether the person believes something to be "viable, truthful information" as much as I am interested in whether it is "viable, truthful information". I make my decisions based on a lot of things, including whether the science and the logic behind the assertions makes sense to me, and whether there's some sort of verifiable evidence. Also, if i catch the purveyor of information is obvious falsehoods, it makes just about everything he says suspicious. Where's the EVIDENCE, Jim? |

The first thing you see on any thread is someone asking for evidence... Prove it. :savetata: Favorite Quote - "I just fucking love outer space, it has all those planets and stars and shit." - Mister Obvious 2009 |
Xenus (OP) User ID: 648970 Australia 04/16/2009 03:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Remember, awareness! "I make my decisions based on a lot of things, including whether the science and the logic behind the assertions makes sense to me, and whether there's some sort of verifiable evidence." Oh, I forgot to mention this, but that would rely a lot on your understanding of logic and science. You can't know everything and we have to assume you understand and use logic properly and that your understanding of science is reasonable. So, you basically think you know everything and your logic is 100% correct and that everyone's thoughts and ideas who do not meet your criteria are wrong. Grow up and open your mind a little. Quoting: Xenus 648970The Dark Side of Debate If you take a course, or visit a web-site, or pick up a text on logical fallacies, then you'll hear a lot about the benefits of critical thinking: "It's important to know about the fallacies so that we can think clearly." "We should avoid committing fallacies so that we can find the truth." And so on, and so on... This site isn't about any of that. This site is about something much more important that discovering the truth; it's about winning arguments. Specifically, it's about using fallacies to win arguments. [link to www.fallacies.info] Simple, easy to understand, should be printed out and always near your computer for when making threads or posting. Stupid thread. Debunkers are the opposite of shills. Trolls are merely annoying. |

D. Bunker 04/16/2009 03:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | But debunkers who debunk using these methods are shills... Unless they know they are wrong but want to prove something or simply to disprove/discredit the ideas of another for whatever purposes. And trolls also use these to simply go around random posts and disrupt the threads.
