Great stuff man. Almost felt like i was there.

Cool. I'm a bit dissapointed with the fuzzy finish to this one. I'll try to see if i can make the next one sharper. All the digital filters have dissapeared from my PC so i will have to do some thinking to try and make the next one clearer.

the 'seeing' was pretty bad in the telescope video. Lots of wavy-ness in the image. Picking a cool night might improve this. What f-stop was the telescope working at? was it a Newt or Cass? Nice information with it.

LX 90. Hi, I am interested to know. When people say it's "bad", what is that in comparison to? cheers.

Clavius is one of the largest crater formations on the Moon, and it is the third largest crater on the visible near side. It is located in the rugged southern highlands of the Moon, to the south of the prominent ray crater Tycho.
Description
Due to the location of the crater toward the southern limb, the crater appears oblong due to foreshortening. Because of its great size, Clavius can be detected with the unaided eye. It appears as a prominent notch in the terminator about 1-2 days after the Moon reaches first quarter. The crater is one of the older formations on the lunar surface and was likely formed during the Nectarian period about 4 billion years ago. Despite its age, however, the crater is relatively well-preserved. It has a relatively low outer wall in comparison to their size, and it is heavily worn and pock-marked by craterlets. The rim does not significantly overlook the surrounding terrain, making this a "walled depression". The inner surface of the rim is hilly, notched, and varies in width, with the steepest portion in the south end. Overall the rim has been observed to have a somewhat polygonal outline.


Crater floor
The floor of the crater forms a convex plain that is marked by some interesting crater impacts. The most notable of these is a curving chain of craters that begin with Rutherfurd in the south, then arc across the floor in a counterclockwise direction forming a sequence of ever diminishing diameters. From largest to smallest, these craters are designated Clavius D, C, N, J, and JA. This sequence of diminishing craters has proved a useful tool for amateur astronomers that want to test the resolution of their small telescopes.

The crater floor retains a diminished remnant of a central massif, which lies between Clavius C and N. The relative smoothness of the floor and the low size of the central peaks may indicate that the crater surface was formed some time after the original impact

Actually there is a freaking house foundation and a chimney on the left of the image. The craters are concave in the picture but appear convex in the vid.

They look that way sometimes depending on the angle your looking at them from and the amount of light involved.

Looks good to me. What gets my goat is all the astronomers out there that tell me it's impossible to film the moon and even this crater as close as we've shown in the video. I say obviously it is possible as we've shown it in the video.

Now many people out there also write stories that the moon vids are fake. If they were wouldn't be doing this for free but would be working for someone in hollywood for big bucks along with John.

It's a shame the files had to be converted as the originals are much sharper.

This video below has the most attention on youtube out of all the moon vids. I've been accused of telling everyone it's a tower full of aliens. Yet I called it a tower because it looked weird to me due to having a spherical top to it.

You know what makes the new clearer videos stand out from the crowd is the fact that the viewer gets a more 3D view of the moon's surface which is not easily seen or replicated in photographs. Even the wobble of the atmospheric distortion adds to this 3D feel.

There are of course many satellites in orbit, only a few of which are
anything to do with JPL, but these are readily seen by
astro-photographers like yourself all over the world.

and again my congratulations on your superb astrophotography

You are clearly getting some images at almost the diffraction limit of
your telescope. In the very sharpest images there are hints of diffraction
rings visible on the edges of the satellites. That is of course the
absolute limit of optical performance, and is only rarely attained.

Interestingly, the process you have, of using a high-quality imaging
system, with fast read-out, and then selecting the rare `perfect' images
is something which has been developed and applied somewhat by one of my
colleagues here. You might like to look at our local web page presenting
