Smoker and non-smokers...poll
POLL: Have you quit smoking because of the tax?
 Yes
 no
I don't smoke but knows someone who has quit
I don't smoke but knows folks who still do despite the tax
 I've only cut back...but haven't quit

The one person I know who quit successfully years ago did it by keeping track of how much money he saved by not smoking and how many days he added to his life every day he doesn't smoke.

After 7 years he now expects to live to be 120.

It takes at least 3 weeks to get the nicotine out of your system. Give yourself some credit and stick with it. Practice cognitive thinking while you are feeling so bad.

My sweety is the same way....

What he did was buy some backwood cigars...the really nasty kind, and everytime he wants a cig...he puffs a couple from that and puts it out...he can't stand them, and it seems to be helping!

It would be great if all smokers could quit without the use of another crutch like the patches....that would make a HUGE statement....I wonder how much damage to the economy that would cause?

I cut way back, but not because of the recent taxes. I cut back a few years ago now, to save money, and because I realized I enjoy them more if I don't smoke as much.

EDIT to add: I smoke about a pack a week.

When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand.

Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"

Re: Smoker and non-smokers...poll
Is it really the nicotine that we are addicted to or is it the chemicals that they add? After all, they have lied to us about everything, so why not lie to us about nicotine to hide the real truth as to the addictive chemicals they add?

A while ago, I read information about a movie producer who was working in Britain and he said his normal brand was not available, so he tried a different brand and found that within a few weeks he didn't feel addicted anymore. He believed that with American cigarettes it was the chemicals that made him addicted and not the nicotine. He also said that even just after a meal, he didn't have the immediate urge to smoke. So I wonder if anyone who smokes non-chemical cigarettes, if they really feel addicted to them? That would give everyone insight as to the truth about nicotine. Is nicotine actually the addictive part to cigarettes? Does anyone smoke non-chemical cigarettes? A good way to learn this would be to grow your own tobacco and find the truth.

It's fairly easy to smoke only half a pack a day ... which I have been doing for years.

Quit completely? ... Not so easy, lol ... and that's an understatement!

Re: Smoker and non-smokers...poll
On day #4 here. My hubby has cut way back, and plans to quit as well.

We had $60 for the week, and I started figuring in my head:

That $60 could get me cigarettes for 5 days, not counting my husbands, or it could get us some groceries so everyone benefits. I decided (without even blinking) that my children come first, and it's time to quit when I have to make a choice like that. It was a no brainer.

I've got some patches from the last time I tried to quit (didnt want to that time), so I'm using them for now. I'm trying to stretch them out, making them last longer than the normal 24 hours. And when a craving comes, I inhale deeply a couple times. I'm trying to avoid sweets, as I'm also a recovering anorexic, and weight gain will play hell on my mind. I'm comfortable with my weight right now, and dont want to slip into the old mindset, so at 5'3", 128-138 lb range I can deal with, anymore than that, I get anxious.

I wish good luck to all of us, smokers or not, who just want this draconian crap to stop (taxing us to death). And btw, I loved smoking (menthols).

NOPE. And until I absolutely can not afford it anymore I will continue to smoke. They can stick their taxes and manipulative bullshit up their proverbial asses and quit trying to control my life by telling me what I can and CAN'T do.... grrrr...

On a lighter note, (smiles).... I might try growing my own.

i'm confused. 5'3" and 128-138 is hardly anorexic.

I'm 5'3" and 120 and that's not even close to anorexic. i'd have to lose another 20 lbs for that...
