After seeing ALL designs I say DON’T change.

None of the website designs in contest is better than the one Elaine designed.

I voted to stay as it is.

Re: - VOTE - $500 Website Design Contest - VOTE NOW -
it seems clear already that none of the designs will win. if there weren´t so many different designs, one of them would actually stand a chance of getting more votes and beating the ´keep it as it is´ option

Hey - mine keeps the design the same but just changes the banner. If it doesn´t win I hope that the basic layout won´t change - I like the ´feel´ of it just the way it is.

Re: - VOTE - $500 Website Design Contest - VOTE NOW -
2 things r not so good..

1- One can vote several times for a specific design

2- Some designs r good enough but some of them cannot be transformed into html because the graphics are not "tile-compatible" or the total "weight" of the page (bandwith) will be affected.

Conclusion: Such decisions cannot be taken in the democratic (vote) way, but the professional one. That means, the forum owners give the job to a pro to do it and thats it. Otherwise they leave the site intact.

Re: - VOTE - $500 Website Design Contest - VOTE NOW -
you cant judge the bandwidth from the way the pages are at present due to most being a screen snap.

The page I put up would be 50k instead of 220k with no apparent defects if I had cut it up into HTML to fit the current sites layout so buttons would be positioned exactly where they are.

But as Trinity stated, we need not worry about HTML at this stage whic makes your statement null and void.

Re: - VOTE - $500 Website Design Contest - VOTE NOW -
Keep the same design has an unfair advantage because it is the default ruling with so many designs to pick from. I think there needs to be a different system of voting. Narrow it down first to the best and then vote.

Re: - VOTE - $500 Website Design Contest - VOTE NOW -
It lets you vote more than once? Not good. Also, some designs have several pages and should be voted on as a set. I noticed that different pages of the same sets are getting voted on separately.

Also, it seems most are saying keep it the way it is. Maybe it should be "design a new logo" contest instead. The logo is the main element of a website. All you have now is a banner with plain text on it.

I submitted a few designs myself, but the way it´s looking, I think you should change it to a logo design contest. AFTER you have a new logo, then other slight changes could be implemented (ie changing the snowflakes header, etc.). In designing a website, I always like to start with the logo first, based on the owner´s input, and then use it as inspiration for other elements in the site.

A lot of the designs are showing plain text for "Godlike Productions". It should be a graphic. It´s looking like the logo is being set aside for the header backdrops. (Or a logo/header design contest keeping the forum layout, etc the same?)

Re: - VOTE - $500 Website Design Contest - VOTE NOW -
OR remove the zero vote submissions to narrow it down, then let the remaining designs be open for input. Have a thread where posters offer suggestions & changes to each one. Have people list what they like and dislike about each one; giving the designers a chance to rework them. That´s how most web redesigns are done. The first one is never the final one! There´s changes and rechanges.
(ie. I like your background but those buttons have to go!)

But don´t forgot to list them as sets!
1a
1b
2a
2b
2c
3a
4a

Personally, I would luv input, good or bad, and a chance to improve the designs.

Yes, please list some as sets.

As of this post my submission got 4 for the main page and 3 for the forum. But THEY ARE THE SAME THING!
Now it´s broken up so instead of getting 7 votes it´s split for the same design.

Pretty lame if you ask me.

Re: - VOTE - $500 Website Design Contest - VOTE NOW -
you can only vote once

I will group some of the same designs that are up as multiple choices right now into one soon or I will just total up the votes for them at the end as one

Re: - VOTE - $500 Website Design Contest - VOTE NOW -
i fully understand the reason behind the grouping of different pix of the same set.
However those entries have the advantage of influence in the minds of the voters.

If you see 5 designs of the same set separately is more likely to vote one of them instead of a single one somewhere between the full list.

So when the sum take place the single-pic entries are lost for sure. Not fair.

And something else. If an entry wins and need several changes to fit the bandwith restrictions then it should be changed. That means the original voted design it is not usable as is.

Ask each one of the entrants to consider the html issue... You will see that many etries will be transformed into something with different impact it the voter´s eyes.

It is a web page contest, not an artistic one.
Someone can draw a wonderfull page. And win.
Its doubtfull that the same page can be used without changes. So the winner page might not be the winner afterall...

What should be done IMO is to keep the text area as it is an then just take one of the new designs and replace the old structure around text area.

My designs are 9,10,20,21,22,34,35

I do like the layout of 30 the best though, the background I rather pick mine, but the layout definately goes to the one who did 30, my hats off to you and thanks donnie for the cheers on my design 9.

Diz

I wish the annimation in 35 could be seen through the contestant page, but only way to see it is through the site I posted it on at

www.geocities.com/dizyphotos/design1.html

It´s a mouse over annimation.

Good Luck everyone

Diz.

thx :)
8 & 33 are the same set, but I´d like a chance to make it better, like use the old stuff from the forum buttons on down and place it over a new header. Can we have a round two?
