Need to stop heat from coming in windows cheaply. Any ideas?

window film 3M makes it so do others...reflects 98 percent infrared and UV also adds some important R-value too

Well this heatwave is underway in AZ, and I am not going to turn on the A/C in April. So what I need are ideas on how to go about (cheaply) blocking the heat from a west facing window. Any ideas?

Any local home supply store (Lowe's/Home Depot) should have it in stock. Usually comes in 36" wide rolls of 15-20 feet.

Put a brontosaurus in front of the window. They're large and will block out the sum. They're cold blooded and will cool the house.

However, you can cut a one-inch thick piece of Styrofoam to fit into the window casement, and cover the outside facing side with aluminum foil.

To increase the fashion cool in addition to the temperature cool, you could line the inward-facing side of the Styrofoam with fabric stretched and held in place with push pins.

Try to get a fabric which brings out some of the colors in both the walls and the bed-spread, of course.

My niece used to live in Phoenix. She and her husband went to either Lowe's or Home Depot and bought some screen frame "kits" which you could custom size to your windows. They purchased some sun-blocking screen and installed it in the frames just like regular screening. Was advertised as blocking 95 percent of the heat from penetrating the screen but you could still see outside from the inside. Putting your hand up to the window you could not feel any heat at all.

Funny............ very funny. Window is shut, and the blinds are closed. You can stand within 3 feet of the window and feel the heat coming thru.
