What do you Southerners hate about Northerners?

Sorry, you really do give yourself too much credit. Northerners have to deal many problems that you don't like snow and ice, cold etc. If you don't think we've learned how to survive you really are an ignorant person. Check you're HISTORY...Where do you think think the 1st colonies during the severe wether was? Washington fought and beat the piss out of the British up here when he had very little food clothing ammo, and food! I'm not bashing "Southerners" but let's keep it REAL alright?

I married a Yankee and I've been forced to live in this living hell (New England) for 12 lost years. I was raised in the West but my family is from the South.

Yankees are cranky. They are some of the most mean spirited, godless, insane psychotic liberals you will ever meet. Remember that scene in Lord of the rings where the nosy elderly Hobbit sneers at Gandalf because he's an 'outsider'? Yeah that's a typical New Englander for you.

If you say hello to a new Englander they will try to avoid you. The only time they talk to you is if they think you are violating their space or doing something wrong. I've had people come out their house to tell me I'm not supposed to walk my dog near watershed lands, but otherwise try to ignore me at all costs.

They vote D automatically in every election. It's like an involuntary response. Then they are shocked when the state comes down on them and treats them like slaves. "Government is too big and heavy handed!" " Well why did you vote D?" "Huh, I don't know. Republicans are evil."

I told my neighbor I was praying for her husband to recover from cancer. She sneered at me that other people were praying too, I wasn't the only one, implying that my prayers were probably not being heard or were not wanted.

I have a lot of stories like this. What you would consider completely cruel, obnoxious and rude, they would consider proper neighborly relations.

This is what happens when you take a bunch of Puritans, make them alcoholics, destroy their brain chemistry with Lyme disease and surgically remove religion from their lives.

My only friends here come from somewhere else. I can't wait to leave.

Northerners who've moved here insisted our town start salting the roads when it snows, so everything can carry on, whereas personally, I'd be happy if nothing carried on as usual, ever.
My yankee neighbor, after we were snowed in a few days one year, here on our great sledding hill, made the city come plow, because she was going nuts being unable to drive. And a beloved yankee friend, once called me after a mere week of being snowed-in, sounding as if she was having a psychotic break over it, while I was in my element, enjoying figuring out what i could cook without going to grocery store, which WAS still possible, technically, but no fun, -not sporting somehow.

-Couple more things about SOME northerners: They think they're experts about southerners, having watched many,
many hours of tv-delivered stereotyping.
They interpret my absolute horror of hurting anyone's feelings, as me trying to ingratiate myself, presumably because I 'want something'from them. This makes them feel smugly powerful, thinking they've 'got my number'.

Well there are multiple reasons, one, as many have said, is their arrogant, condescending attitude. To a lesser extent, I just hate the way they talk. All they do is come down here and bitch about everything from hunting to NASCAR. Now, they aren't as bad as those queers out in California, but they're pretty damn close. Also, they're general hatred of actual music (i.e. George Strait, Blake Shelton). But most of all, I despise how they assume anyone who lives South of DC is a redneck, cause that ain't true. If they were a tad smarter and nicer, I don't reckon we'd hate em at all.

I sure hope you guys aren't referring to "northerners" as Canadians, I was born in Canada I love the south I hope to move there one day because if you ask me...... I'm more Southern than Canadian.

My brother lived in the deep south (this is like 35 years ago though) and he said they always considered him a Yankee even though he was from MO, which is Midwest/upper South. He liked it, but every once in a while it would hit home that he would always be a Yankee in their eyes. I guess because MO was officially a Union state, even though it was split. It cracks me up that anyone would consider me a Yankee because to me that is the North and New England.
When I was young I worked for a medical association on the switchboard. We would call all the different states and when we connected we'd transfer the doctors to talk to each other. It really made me feel in the middle- a Midwesterner, because when I'd call Mississippi the switchboard operator would start a conversation, like how y'all doing up there? how's the weather, etc., which was nice, but after a minute or two I'd start to feel impatient,thinking we aren't getting paid to ask about each other's families, we are just the people transferring the calls.
Then I'd call N.Y. and think these New Yorkers are so rude. Would it kill them to put a little warmth in their voice? Could they say please or thank you, or are they just too damn busy to be polite? They would be so clipped and cut you off. So I would have to say I related more to the southern way of being friendly even if I wasn't quite that friendly.
From traveling around- to me the best people in the world live in TN and KY. They are just really nice good people but MO is pretty good too.

I really cannot stand the northern accent. It hurts my ears. Plus with the 'attitude' and the snide arrogant, it's a total TURN-OFF. The smartest/intelligent/well-educated/pleasant/sweet(does that term even mean the same thing in the North?)people that i have ever met have been southerner - period. Northerners would make more friends if they learned how to be humble (like southerners) and tried to 'fit in' a little more, rather than trying to educate/change/or make it better for us. It's intrusive and definitely unwanted!

Southerners still hate Yankees for about the same reasons that jewish people and Polish still hate Nazis. Except that many Nazi war criminals were punished, while Yankee war criminals were rewarded and idolized, given government appointments, elected to Congress.
The reason? Crimes against humanity.
Yankees were thieves, rapists, murderers of civilians, arsonists, looters, liars. They attempted genocide of both whites and blacks across the South. Sherman, Sheridan, Butler all war criminals, as well as every single soldier in their armies.If any soldier did not participate in the atrocities, there is not a record I can find to show a single one who objected to them or attempted to stop them.
If your ancestor was a Yankee soldier your family may still be handing down looted goods as "heirlooms." If your family descends from a Yankee war criminal, what do you have to be proud about?
Accusing Southern people of being ridiculous for not forgetting the War atrocities is like accusing People today of being ridiculous for their feelings about 9/11. Except that only a city block was damaged in NY, while whole cities, rural areas, homes, factories, barns, were destroyed across the South. People starved across the South; no one starved in NY. Do you think that Southern people did not feel somewhat the same about Atlanta, Charleston and their homes and hometowns across the South as people felt and still feel about 9/11?
We do not forget the atrocities, and many know the history. Thie Southerners who don't know the truth have been indoctrinated to believe propagandized lies taught in US history classes, but even they hate Yankees without fully realizing why. Those whose family members survived enough to pass down their truths might still retain some remnants of it. Maybe there is such a thing as genetic memory.
If so, that may explain why many Yankees are much like their war criminal forebears. They like to remember their so called heroes. They are proud of the atrocities they know about. Their ancestors covered up, glossed over, lied about the ones they don't know about. They still love to call names, and still attempt to denigrate Southerners with their inherited
cruelties and their inherited baseness.
But they don't know what the names signify. Red scarves were worn by the coal miners who were brutalized and killed for objecting to cruelties in
Virginia and Kentucky. These men were called Rednecks. The folks who farmed, that is, they did honest work on the land to feed their families, their neighbors were also called Rednecks because their necks would get sunburned from it.
Now Yankees use the word to denigrate every person who has a Southern way of speaking, whether the Southerner is highly educated or just plain folk. And yes some educated Southerners do, deliberately, retain their Southern accent.
The biggest lie told is that the Yankee soldiers were heroes to the slaves and fought for their freedom. They raped the women, starved the old men and children, murdered many who followed them believing in their lies. Some Yankee states passed laws stating that freed slaves could not live in those states. The Confederate States constitution states that slaves would be emancipated. The Yankees mass murdered, raped, denigrated and further enslaved them, passing laws to keep them from having equal rights, yes in the Yankee states, for nearly 100 years after the war: who do you think was in power after the war? Yankees. So who kept the black people from equal rights for so long after the war? Yankees. Who controls the history books that teach both blacks and whites lies? Yankees.
The Southern Cause was the Right of People to Choose their Government, that is government by the people. They believed that people were represented best state by state, and not by a centralized power over all states.
The wheel of history turns, and the Internet has made the documented histories of the South available. You who refuse to read about the extent of Yankee war crimes choose to remain ignorant and perpetuate the sins
of your fathers.
Canada has nothing to do with it. Southerners do not hate Canadians, nor do most call them names. Yankees say "Canucks" which I think means about the same thing as "redneck Canadian." I could be wrong, I never used the term, never had a reason to, was not taught that by older family members. I just think it is another Yankee-created denigrating derogatory
term, you will have to ask a Yankee. Just don't depend on what they say, as history proves, they like lies as much as they like derogatory names.
