Actually as a Canadian, I agree with this statement.

I travel in the North-Eastern US and I see all these menus with "biscuits and gravy" and then I think about Paula Dean and how tasty they should be...

You never will. There is no punchline. I'm sure there are some decent exceptions, but I've never had good barbeque up north. Good Mexican either for that matter, but there's gotta be a few good places up there, right?

That's true. Oddly enough there is one exception here in Fort Worth. A place called Billadelphia's serves authentic Philly cheesesteaks. He even gets the Amoroso's rolls shipped down. I've never had a cheesesteak in Philly, but my old boss is from PA and he said that it was authentic. Of course the owner of the place is a Philly native, so it doesn't really count. Other than that I've never had anything close here.

Pizza is another one. I've never had a deep dish as good as the ones in Chicago. Even the Uno's chains taste like shit compared to the original one downtown.

As a northerner who has to deal with southern truck drivers, I find them very friendly. They always ask me where they can find the best meat and cheese to bring home with them. But their thick southern accent gives me trouble. I find it hard to understand what they're saying.
