I want to work in northern India/Nepal as an EFL teacher.
Okay, so I’ve worked as an EFL teacher in South Korea and Thailand. I have about four years experience although I haven’t worked for the past couple of years (currently holed up in a caravan writing a book). So anyway, next September (providing there is no pole shift, pandemic, WWIII etc) I plan on taking myself and a backpack to northern India and maybe Nepal and work for 6 months. I plan on renting a very cheep room and looking for teaching/private tutoring work. I’ve never been to India or Nepal so I’m not quite sure exactly where I am headed yet but have a vague idea of Varanasi, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Darahmsala, Kathmandu. I am interested in religion mysticism etc and would like to talk to a few holy men, smoke some chillums and write another book.

I have no money which is why I want to work when I am in India. Here in the UK I am finding it hard just to keep my head above water and survive financially and I doubt I can save more than the cost of return fare air ticket, visa and insurance. I’ve got my credit card for emergencies.

I would appreciate any advice from my GLP family. You have never let me down in the past.

Thanks for the links. afro

I've just checked out idealist.org and see that they have a podcast and a forum. I'm busy downlaoding the podcast onto iTunes and I'm going to post the same question on their forum in a couple of days. First I want to gather advice from GLP.

much love

Yeah, useful websites.

If anyone else has more links or their own personal experiences of working and travelling in India/Nepal then I'd love to read what you have to say.

I'm pretty independent and like to venture out on my own. I'll probably just head off somewhere, find a room and then speak to everyone I meet in search of work. But where would be a good destination to hunker down for 6 months and teach, meditate, smoke chillums and write?
