99 confirmed cases in Mexico.
8 deaths there.

It is mathematically impossible that with a infection rate of only 0.0024% in Nexico (2.600 to a 110 million popullation), the virus has spreaded to at least 2 more continents. Number of infected in Mexico is probably above 150.000 with around 3.000 people death, giving a optimistic 2% death rate.
Who would be naive enough to believe that with only around 2.600 infected people and 160 deaths (the official WHO numbers are too ridiculuous to be mentioned), mexican authorities would take so drastic measures like factories closing for 5 days, schools for more than 2 weeks, restaurants closed, etc. All factors indicate that things are far uglier than the media is telling us. |

The problem with this kind of calculation (which I threw together to put some solid numbers behind the OP's idea), is that that's 8.08% of INFECTED people, NOT 8.08% of the POPULATION.

If nothing happens, so be it, but the OP is telling you the truth. For your sakes, for your family's sakes. Go get enough provisions to last you awhile.
What could it hurt?
Besides, the more stuff you get now, the less stuff you have to go ou for when it IS in your area, thus limiting your exposure. Even if it's not deadly, you spare yourself a horrible couple weeks of throwing up and feeling horrible.

But let's say a 33% infected rate. So at 7 billion, that's 2,310,000,000 infected....
If we use 8% fatality rate, then that = 184,800,000 dead.
In human history, have we ever had that many die from one type of event? I mean, that's a freaking huge number!
Put in perspective here in the states - 300,000,000 pop at 1/3 infected = roughly 100,000,000 infected.
8% fatality rate = 8,000,000 dead in the U.S. That too is a huge number. And we're talking about 1 in 12 dying (that are infected).
So...how many people do I know? If I take 1/3 of that number and then apply the 1 in 12 number...that means I will be mourning someone, yes?
Of course, it may not play out this way at all.
I don't think there is cause for panic yet - but I do think that people should look at these sobering numbers and realize the potential that we are facing - and begin doing everything they can to help this issue - wash your hands, etc....

Norways health minister Bjarne Håkon Hansen just anounced that this is gonna get bad .Norway has orderd 15 million masks and supplies.
For continuity of government Norwegian parliament members ,healthcare and state system officers and those who work in state official jobs gets flushots first . Norwegian primeminster gets flushots first , then you and your children ,then those who need it, the weak , the old and so on.

It is no crime to think about the POTENTIAL numbers and then to prepare accordingly. Even with the current low death toll, this thing CAN turn out really bad.
Just keep thinkin folks.
Come next week up here, I expect my kids will be stayin home and my wife and I shortly after. |

But your talking about the beginning of a potential pandemic....I mean, the first day there was 1, then 2, then 4, etc...I suspect those numbers will go up.
Now, I will also say that if contingency plans work out, this can still be slowed down - which is why I said no need for panic yet.
However, if mexico really only has 99 infected (which is just confirmed, not really a true number) but even if it was a true number, with 7 confirmed deaths, that's still a fantastic kill rate. So let's just hope it doesn't spread!
(I think though the concern is that it is inevitable that it will - given that this is a new strain, and, supposedly, no one has immunity to it at all)....
