So I started the 10 day trial of wow and was hooked!
Great game and graphics!
For those of you that are wow players can you offer any suggestions, advice, and tips for a newbie on getting the best stats, equipment, and gold?
I'm level 12 now and mostly just questing. "Absolute power corrupts absolutely"

Don't know anything about it OP...sorry. "I'd rather die fighting on my own terms with a rifle in my hands, than to die whimpering and begging for mercy in some ditch with my hands tied behind my back."

Go for herbalism and mining...(gathering skills) if you are concerntrating on 1 char and you can sell the items on auction. Join a guild ..You will find a lot of members will ing to donate and help. Do quests..... Fish and cook at higher lvls of fishing...AND if you are lucky... you may even fish up a purple!!

Another tip.... save your gold for mounts and the riding skill..... The quicker you get these.. the faster you can get from place to place BTW what char type are you playing?? rouge, mage... etc? .... And thats coming from an old Cynic

I tryed WOW a while back on a free trial , It is a great game and your right it looks awesome on a good rig .... But ..
Its a very addictive game and i would rather warn you than give you advice ... Be careful you don't get hooked into it , Im told by others its like digital crack :)
Games are a great distraction , I have been a multi player gamer since i was a kid so i know how much fun they can be ... But try and stick to the ones that you buy and pay a one time price to play rather than a subscription .
Take it from a life long player ....it will work out cheaper :)
If you don't want to hear that advice .. Fine ... But don't say you was not warned :)
As for gaining points and getting EXP ,The only real way to do it is to join a clan / guild , They will teach you all the best ways to get along in the game , This allso comes with a warning though , You will soon find out that guilds are headed by control freaks who are surrounded by wannabe control freaks .
Whatever you choose to do ... i hope you have fun , But time spent gaming could be time spent doing something worthwhile :)

No fishing, cooking AND first aid are all seperate... you can in addition to those do 2 other "trades"... If you are fishing.... cook the stuff and then sell to either vendor.. or sell it on auction..... Always look at the auction and see the price its going for... AT your lvl... ALWAYS undercut the lowest seller... .... And thats coming from an old Cynic

yea before you get to evolved in it, go to Lords Of The Rings Online, much better.
both have 10 days trial...but if you are European, then chose EU, and US, if from that side :-)
Look please be careful because WoW can be really fun and addictive but this is what I learned from it.
Wow is great, you can ride mounts, you can do everything and it's never ending so that you can continue to play and pay 15 dollars every month.. You lose half of what you could be spending at the grocery store..
Anyway, You can do all those fun things in WoW. but the truth is. You'll never find true happiness in it, because true happiness is in reality and not virtual reality.. Beware of sleep deprivation for you< I sense this.
and also, social things.

I have been playing MMO's since Asheron's Call and many many MUDS before that; I played Everquest from release as well as Warcraft from release up to now...
Spellborn is the game that those of us sick of Warcraft have been waiting for!
For the record...
I am not associated with Spellborn (Acclaim) in any way. I am just a fan of the genre and have grown to hate Warcraft since they destroyed PvP with their idiotic battlegrounds and arena bullshit.
Unfortunately, there has not been a true alternative to WoW. Age of Conan and Warhammer both failed in epic proportions!
I have been playing Spellborn since January (beta), and it is the best game I have played since the early days of AC!
If you are a fan of the genre, but hate WoW, Warhammer, and Conan... TRY THIS GAME!

It's World of Warcraft... every class is "easy mode"!
The game has been dumbed down and simplified to the lowest common denominator!
There is nothing challenging or difficult about the game; it is cruise control to 80 and then an endless grind-fest post 80.
Battlegrounds and Arena are a fucking joke!
Warcraft was a great game for the first year after release. Once they brought in battlegrounds and the idiotic honor system gear grinds, and ruined true PvP (open world), the game has been on a steady slide to suck.

Here's the lowdown on WoW. It is not a game. It is a social network centered around the acquisition of items. This is what your game experience will be:
Visit NPC A. A will send you to B to kill X amount of boars or whatever until you've collected Y amount of stuff that A needs. Return to A to collect your shitty prize.
Visit NPC B. B will send you to a quest in a dungeon that requires you to be in a group to complete. When you've finally killed the boss someone in the group will ninja the loot that you wanted.
Repeat these two scenarios a million times until your toon is all decked out in the best gear available. Stand in your capital city wearing your best gear so newbs can laugh at the fact you obviously have no life. Realise that Blizzard have screwed your ass and cry real tears of rage and regret that you wasted literally days of your life getting purple gear that no-one else in the world gives a shit about
Delete WoW, emerge from your gaming cocoon into the harsh sunlight of the real world and thank the higher powers that you got out in time.

But I was laid up after my second knee operation and was stuck in the house all the time. I soon reached Level 20 on my first night elf hunter.. I just had to subscribe.... LOL
I did not upgrade for a year after the blood elves came out. It took me that long to get a character to level 60. No I have yet to upgrade to the one with northrend in it.
Tips - Play a character for a while, get to know the game - consider your first character like the first pancake - it don't count.
I ran three characters on a single realm this way I could have a leather crafter (for my hunters) and an enchanter and one that just got materials (ore and leather).
Making gold is time consuming. There are mods and addons you can get off the web to make things a bit easier try:
Cartographer is great - it has an ore finder/mapper that comes with a decent library so you do not have to hunt for the ore deposits. Other things that you gather (like herbs) is also included.
There are things for the classes, hunters helper for hunters, Priest Friend for priests - lots of others as well.
Fubars is a good one, its an add-on that places bars at the top and/or bottom of your screen allowing you to have things like gold trackers, guild bar, etc.
DO NOT buy gold. While many sell WOW gold, its against the ULA to buy and use the gold. You may be tempted, but its not worth it.
Ore is plentiful when you look at copper - higher minerals are not that plentiful. I believe you will find the same with just about most of the gathering skills.
Your profession Skills (you can only have two) would be gathering (mining, skinning, herb gathering) and manufacture (leather crafting, armor crafting, enchanting)
On top of that you can learn cooking, first aide, fishing.
First aid is helpful if your class doesn't have heal spells. Prior to getting heal pet on my hunter I would bandage my pets. While later on you most likely will rely more on potions, bandaging can still be very helpful.
Cooking - not so helpful but it is useful.
Fishing - I love it - but then its something to do late at night when I can't sleep and don't want to farm or engage in too many battles.
Do do Quests. If you are say an alliance night elf, then make your way to the other alliance starting points - do the quests there as well. If you do enough quests you can get a horse for the night elf (doing the human quests) My Second Night Elf was riding a horse by level 45. Even if you are not interested in the other races' mounts, the additional bargain prices you get for items and stuff is worth the extra effort.
For a newbie character don't worry to much about trying to make money until around about level 20.
Once you are level 20 you can go back and gather materials in the area you just came from without being pwnd by the creeps/mobs.
The best bet for a first character on a realm is to be a strict gatherer. Since this is your first character stick with ore mining (so you can have it tracked all the time) and skinning. Yeah leather doesn't get you much, but its a little more.
Once you have played through the map you will have a better idea where things are.
Best stats - eh - that come with the more expensive armors and weapons. You shouldn't be worrying about having all purple or all blue stuff until level 40+ Then you need to think only a few items aiming to deck out your character at level 60+
By the time you are level 60 you will know where the best mining is, or your skill will be high enough up there that the stuff you make is worth a lot more.
Bank: If you plan on sticking with the game make a low level character. If you are playing horde with your main, it must be horde on the same realm. Get it up to level 5 or ten and park it in a major city.
Use your mail box and send your stuff to your banker. Things you want to sell, stacks of items you have collected - send it all via mail to your banker. That way you don't spend a lot of time running back and forth to and from the auction house.
Auction House: Use it. Yeah sure folk are selling linen at a silver when the NPC stores pay 99 copper (I forget the real numbers) but that single copper will amount to something.
Also keep an eye on the auction house. Many people sell items for far less. There are mods and addons that make this whole process easier.
Different Realms have different economies. I have seen one realm sell 20 copper ore for 1 gold - I have seen others selling that same copper for 3.5 gold. Usually the economy of the realm is pretty well balanced.

Thanks for a lot of helpful suggestions!
I'm sure I'll figure it all out eventually. lol
To the ones who were rude and suggested I come back to reality blah blah blah, what is the difference between spending time gaming in a virtual reality versus spending all day in cyber world on glp bitching and moaning?
I have a life and don't spend hours on end playing wow.
I just like to play when I get the urge.
If it isn't bothering me or my family then what is your concern?
Maybe you should get a life and leave me to my own! "Absolute power corrupts absolutely"

The best thing about WoW I ever saw was some video of a rouge group that totally smashed and attacked a funeral procession of all these unarmed idiots, like thousands of fucking losers who were all in mourning over the passing of a player.
Lmfao. I should google it or look for it on yourtube....but then again...nah I don't care enough to be bothered either.
