how can i increase my typing accuracy? HELP fast and accurate typers

Play around with hand position. Bring your fingers in towards your palms a little bit. Less area your fingers have to roam.

I used a cheap typing software...like mavis beacon or something and just keep doing it.

Just gotta keep typing and don't think about it so much.

going backwards helped me, do the drills, but do them in the reverse until you can whip through those drills front to back, and you'll relax enough to go faster with outstanding accuracy. Too much thinking will really slow you down . .. relax

do you mean type each word backwards? like home type emoh?

Take yourself back to high school typing class mode... run repeated series of well-known exercises, like "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country."

Through that repetition, deal with the problems you've described. Become very emphatic in the motion of hitting right keys, dead center on the keypad. Employ rhythm... chant the phrase like a mantra, out loud, while you type, or do it to music that matches the rhythm. This drives the exercise further into your brain.

Get one ex. down, then move on to another that practices different keys.

I do think typing fast is an natural ability. I can't add 5 + 5 without a calculator, but I type 120 on a good day, 90 on a bad day. I was fast early on in my training. But as I'm getting older (early 50's), I'm definitely finding that I make more typos. I used to immediately feel it when I made one. Now I miss them even in the proofreading step. Old age is going to suck, at the keyboard. Point is, I'm having to do the same thing you're doing... become much more attentive and deliberate in my typing, so I don't lose my edge.

You need lots of confidence, and practice makes perfect. Another great way to improve is to sit down with a book you truly love. Make sure your desk top is well-lighted and the book positioned just right. Sit there and type 10 pages in a row. You'll be tired, but that's OK. Then do it again, several days in a row. Because you love the material, you won't get quite as bored. The length of typing time gives you lots of chance to work out the bugs naturally, reflexively. This will definitely translate into improved skills when you come back to doing more specific typing tasks.

About 12 years ago I learned how to type with my little nephew's frigging "Jump Start" kids typing program.
GOD, it was annoying as HELL, but it worked. >:O

For me a split right-handed Dvorák worked, just kidding I two finger type...however if speed was important then check it out. Old typewriters originally came with that layout but the keys would get stuck because a person could type faster than the the keys could move.

All typing tutors cover the speed and accuracy tests for that layout also. Grood luk.

Do what most of us do, if you don't get it right,
carry on. If someone mentions it, tell them to go fuck themselves.

It works for me and my intire familly unit.

That was real, though, I didn't copy and paste.

You might want to add a few exceptions, wives, bosses, etc.

You typed all that out, why not use the quote button, it's almost the same thing.

Actually none of us are typing. We use a voice recognition program and let the computer do all the work.

um yeah - i need to get 45 wpm to pass testing at my work in order to qualify for a better position.

i don't think telling my employer of f themselves would go over so well.

Other than getting you out of taking the test that is. There is always a silver lining

Get a really expensive word processor, the kind a writer would have, you shopuld be albe to trane it to yer specifig ttypng hobits, zoon suddanly you a prfessionable, lik me. That is 180WPM with one hand.

It helps if you're a good speller, because you can visualize the word as you're typing it.

Practice practice practice. Get one of those programs.

Don't you mean this? How is the sidewalk shuffle going to get him a raise, that is what he will have to do after he fails the very important to his whole future test. Don't distract him with some fancy footwork or do anything else that might make him nervous so a person who can already type that fast can..you know...apply for his old position..

Did a test that was posted here a few days ago: Got 98% accuracy @ 79 WPM. A few years ago I was getting ~100 WPM in college.

The key for me, is to actually memorize where all the keys are. I can type sentences and anything else whilst looking at someone and speaking to them - I'll know where the keys are no matter what basically. The keyboard I'm using I'm also pretty used to.

Don't drop your wrists or rest them on the base of the keyboard. Get yourself a cheap typing program and practice.

I tried to convert to Dvorak, but after years of Qwerty, it was just too much to overcome.

OP, concentrate on being accurate, and speed will follow. I'm over 60, and I can still do at least 60wpm in my sleep. Of course, I have to have my genuine IBM keyboard, or a good one. You need one with click because typing on a sponge just doesn't get it.

You know what I could really use? I need an on-screen keyboard that is right at the bottom of the screen that blinks (or something that doesn't cause an epileptic episode) when I am just touching the keys, push a few more mm's and I get the actual letter printed. Who cares if it's cheating each time I don't have to correct something the more time I have for posts like this. lol It might actually be useful to somebody else though.

Hire 100 monkeys, teach them to smoke and drink whiskey at computer terminals.

I am not sure how it will work but give it a shot and let us know how it went.

60! Retraining you is more difficult than bending train rails. lol

I can't even think at 60WPM without some form of editing down the road.

I would even mess up those simple instruction, I would stay home and drink and smoke and send the monkeys in to do the work that keeps me in smoke and whiskey
