It was good. But the original DOOM game was better. It still is better than most modern games.

Agreed. Doom and Doom 2. Not like all the crap so called fps games they release these days.
Doom 3 had already completely lost the feeling.

Doom and Doom2 were great, but you could jump in Duke Nukem.
That was really cool. You couldn't do that in Doom.
Plus, he had a jet pack!

Guess ten years is a bit to long to develop a follow-up game.

It is hard to declare a best video game because of different genres.

Wolfenstein 3d was the best FPS
Civilization was the best turn based strategy
StarCraft best RTS

Nope Quake 1 was the best especially the multiplayer

quake 1 is the best game ever IMO.

Half life and portal.....possibly even Oblivion & Bioshock

doom and duke3d (god bless ken steadman and his build engine) were awesome and made history. but they were still pseudo-3d games, "2.5D" as Apogee called it.

Quake 1 was the first truly 3D FPS to be released and it made history. that game was almost entirely made from scratch. the guys literally CREATED a fully 3d engine, a model format (MDL), etc etc

quake 1 introduced a lot of stuff that other FPS games carried on.

quake 1 has also evolved a lot and some ports of it have stunning graphics. people still PLAY quake 1 online nowadays! there are still servers!

I loved playing capture the flag with the grapple addon on my 33.6kbps dial up connection. Quake 2 online was pretty badass also

YES! I stayed up for like 2 days when this game came out on like ps1 or. Shrink ray oN versus mode, awesome. I gotta get this game again.

I have to disagree the best game is not a fps, but it is a gbc game,

Legend of zelda Links awakening dx for gbc.
Then Banjo Kazooie,
Then Legend of Zelda Majoras Mask.
After that would be Left 4 Dead, and Cs 1.6
