690,000 US servicemen to land in Korea in case of war: Seoul

SEOUL (AFP) Feb 04, 2005
The United States will deploy some 690,000 military personnel to help defend South Korea in case of an outbreak of war, South Korea´s Defense Ministry said in a White Paper released Friday.

US forces deployed to the Korean peninsula would be made up of army divisions, carrier battle groups with advanced fighter planes, tactical fighter wings, and marine expeditionary forces based on the Japanese island of Okinawa and on the US mainland, the policy document said.

"The United States has a plan to send more than 40 percent of its entire navy, more than half of its airforce and more than 70 percent of its marine corps to defend South Korea," it said.

"This shows the United States is firmly determined in its will to help defend the Korean Korean peninsula," the White Paper said.

The augmentation forces of more than 690,000 US military personnel would be backed by 160 vessels and 1,600 aircraft, according to the White Paper.

If ´brotherhood´ is what the Koreans want, then they should dismantle the nuke programme and reunify under peaceful pretext. There is only one other option. I would expect an ultimatum for their disarmamnet would be forthcoming.

Don´t you see it. Whilst there is a school yerd bully in the yard terrorising everyone, brotherhood is a little dificult.

But if the bully can be brought down, then brotherhood becomes possible.

Its the littleguys that are following the bullies lead, acting preemptively, calling come in Sipinner, bring em on

I love this country and would defend her against any threat and throw in to help rebuild her but
THIS is just stating common sense: WE threw down this PNAC ´with us or against us´ horseshit gauntlet to the entire planet. And dared anyone to confront us.

We are pointing the finger of accusation at Iran
and shouting nuclear rogues at the top of our lungs

Then North Korea calmly stands and says impudently, "No, WE are the nuclear rogues."

So all this hell bent rhetoric demanding we must punish Iran but a deafening silence on N. Korea?

It doesn´t matter, if the u.s. could take north korea down, just one nuke to a major city will do and think of the sales potential, a somewhat ruthless leader could get with a few bombs - i bet, enough people are waiting for an opportunity.

The U.S. wont do anything about N. Korea because they can actually put up a fight. N. Korea has 1,000,000 troops at their disposal... How many do we have in reserve?

Meanwhile Condoleeza "Gap-tooth" Rice making innuendos about bombing Iran. Remember her "mushroom clouds" comments about Iraq in 2002? oy...
