And I also think that one of the larger CORPORATE WELFARE companies is just as bad...

Archer Daniels Midland.

They pretty much have the corner on the BioFuel Alchohol market.

Sure, they get subsidized because it's "GREEN" and "ENVIRO-FRIENDLY".. which is a load of crap.

Pure Ethanol has about 55 to 60% of the energy density of Gasoline. That means that to do the same amount of work, you have to use 1.6 to 1.8 times that amount in ethanol.

Toss that into a E10 blend, and you're talking about roughly 1.1 to 1.17 times the amount of fuel. That's only 85.3% to 96.8% of the energy per gallon. Yet you pay about 99.5% of the cost of the pure fuel. (Ethanol prices are much lower than that due to the subsidies, but it's not reflected in the pump price)

Guess who makes out? Anyone who collects tax on the number of gallons you use. They subsidize ADM, and you get ripped off. Yet you leave feeling happy that you have "helped the environment."

Can there be bad GM? Yeah. I agree with that. But not all of it is bad.

I'm afraid your comments will fall mostly on deaf ears. Most of the more ... excitable ... people here simply don't understand that we've been genetically engineering plants and animals for millennia now, but the fact that we can do it more efficiently is somehow morally wrong.

Umm, DK... Do you really understand what is going on?

For starters...

They are attempting to outlaw people in having the ability to procure seeds for themselves outside Monsanto.
And the ones that are sold only produce seeds that are good for one year; thus making the farmer's dependent on Monsanto.

Have you looked at any of the Codex information?

What part of evil don't you understand?
 Quoting: The Jurist

...and it's not just SEEDS.

If you watch King Corn (that I mentioned near the beginning of this thread) you'll hear about their attempts to patent PIGS and claim natural genetic traits as "inventions", thereby making ALL pig progeny "license-able"

And they're certainly not stopping there. I just wish this was all paranoid fantasy!

More efficient is complete and utter BS. There is absolutely no proof and actually they have been showing that it is not efficient in any form.

The FACT is they are not more productive. Test plots are showing they do not come close. I am surrounded by farms that have been approached from Monsanto and other GM companies. I deal with these people on a daily basis. They know what is going on with Monsanto and the others. Do not spread your dis-info about how efficient the GM products are.

It truly is not the same as GMO. Don't confuse Hybrid and Open pollinated Heirloom breeding. Heirloom is the truest form of the plant. Reaching an Heirloom qualification is not a easy thing.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 601353

Yes, and according to farmers, there's significant GMO genetic contamination, even among "heirloom" seeds and crops.

The problem is.. how do you tell the "frankenfoods" from the organic foods without a laboratory full of test gear?

The family farm and farmer are nearly gone, and us neo-farmers are

Yes, and what about the SUPERWEED problem that follows these "Roundup ready" crops around like a burial shroud?

It's not nice to fool Mother Nature, and when someone tries, the fabled "unintended consequences" often kill a lot of people and make whole nations go hungry.

And that's the part about it that I don't like about it.

It is possible to engineer the seed so that its offspring can not propagate. This forces the grower to buy more seed.

I'm all for drought and disease resistant strains, but when you engineer in you market margin, that's crossing the line.

I have actually heard of lawsuits being brought against farmers for having "patented" plants in their fields... only because the vendor didn't get the "kill switch" set right and the next field over got cross pollinated.

They send you a letter telling you that you OWE them 200k for having the patent growing on the land. 500k if you tell anyone that you receive the letter. They can and will attempt to seize your land.

This is not bullshit. These GMO companies have the agenda and are putting it into complete use. Farmers are being taken to court all over for growing patent on the land. A patent that has contaminated the land they use.

You want to go au natural, then go whole hog. Mules can't reproduce by themselves. So why don't you protest that also? Once you go down that path you have to take up the position that if an organism can't do it by itself, it should be purged from nature since it's not natural and can't propagate.

Now... square that concept with the gay rights crowd.

They can't square that concept with the gays, because the gays would own them in that particular convo... homosexual behavior is ALL OVER THE PLACE in nature:

My problem with this isn't just the unnatural aspect (with all due respect, I doubt our forefathers were trying to mate pigs and yams...maybe a few weirdos, perhaps), it's the way they're modifying things. They're not just trying to make crops grow better, they're making these crops dependent on a triangle of patented items.

For example, if you want to grow corn, it's modified to deal with the more toxic pesticides, but needs the fertilizer to deal with problems from the other two items. Take away one of the items, for instance, a farmer tries to cut costs, and the whole crop is stunted...or doesn't grow at all.

That's where they're headed, pay to farm...anyone that has contaminated crops will soon find they don't grow well without the other items, and their forced to buy all three, or lose their livelihood altogether. Fewer farmers paying more, charging more, and people simply can't stop buying food, so the sky's the limit once they get this devil's mix perfected.

And that's a terrifying thought, because all monsanto-type companies would have to do would be to stroll into a field and contaminate whatever fields they'd like...and there would be little the farmers could do but pay through the nose.

That's what they HAVE been doing in third world countries. But who cares if peasant farmers can't afford to buy seed and their land no longer supports regular seeds so they just commit suicide. Or if children have chemical burns all over themselves from Monsanto spraying over their homes. Not directed at you, Falldown, just venting. We know they try their crap out on the poor people who have no voice or media first. Makes me sick.

Worst.company.in.the.world. Yes, there are close seconds but when you have a company that KNOWS it is killing people, causing cancer and birth defects but doesn't care because even after paying off the lawsuits they still make a hell of a profit while simultaneously destroying the world's natural food supply...that's f'ed up. Good thing the earth is going to be cleansed and they have the seed vault, eh? *eyeroll*

And the FDA is just as much to blame with their Monsanto revolving door and looking the other way. I don't get why/how anyone can trust them to 'protect' us.

They are working on owning the water soon that you will need to grow the crops. This has been in play for awhile now.

They will own all aspects of the food supply. This is the agenda. Not only will they own the food supply, they have already dominated the Pharma side and many other areas of production.

Just look into what they are using for modification of the seeds. Anyone who thinks that this is not a serious issue needs to do some serious reading and research. What goes into BT Cotton? Do you know why it is killing and making people ill? Do you know why we had a huge listeria death surge from Maple Leaf foods? Find out what they treat the meats with. Wonder what happened with the peanut? Look at the source of food treatment used. Or if you are satisfied with what MSM and Monsanto say about the food supply then just keep going on your merry way.

There is nothing to debunk here. Do not waste your time trying to debunk the truth. The science from independent outside of the corporation does not support the claims or data supplied from the GMO corps. They do not even supply data on 80% of the product due to patent infringement.

Read, read, read and realize that they have duped humanity. The time to stop this is coming to a close. Codex is the completion.

The World According to Monsanto is an in-depth Documentary that looks at the domination of the agricultural industry from one of the world’s most insidious and powerful companies. We are pleased to bring you the full documentary in 10 parts.

This is one of the most powerful, must see films for anyone interested in the behind the scenes world of the food industry, and how just one world dominating corporation holds the keys and patents to much of the worlds food supply.

Monsanto, which started out as one of the planets largest chemical companies is also reposonsible for such chemical compounds as Agent Orange, Bovine Growth Hormone, PCBs and genetically-engineered crops.

You shouldn't be running these scare threads...you sound like the media...no one here is really scared of that shit anyway...food is the least of our worries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
