Anonymous Coward User ID: 675389 United States 05/13/2009 07:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have a bracelet that says 18k gold and it has a .750 under it Quoting: 2PacalypseIt weighs 58 grams According to a friend he sayys it's worth about $1000... I think that's a little high. Can anyone help? 18/24 Karat is 75% gold. At 58 grams total weight and ~31grams per troy ounce or 58/31= ~1.87 troy ounces. 1.87 toz X .75 content = 1.40 t ounces of actual gold in the bracelet. At ~$900/t ounce for gold $900 X 1.4 t oz = ~$1260 in metal content. Depending on style it may be worth more. Hope that helps. |

Quoting: 2PacalypseIt says 18k and under that it says .750 24 karat is pure bullion (seldom used because it is very soft) 18 karat is used in jewelery so 18karat /24karat =.75 or 75 % gold content. 14 k is also used and would be 58% etc. |

Quoting: 2PacalypseIt says 18k and under that it says .750 Yes, it is real gold. Gold is very malleable (it bends very easily) so it is alloyed with other metals to make it "stiffer". The karat rating is how much gold is in there. 18 karat is 75% gold content and 24 karat is just about 100% (it is difficult to hit 100% purity due to contaminates in the environment). The bracelet is 43.5% gold. Do not take it to a traditional jeweler to sell though. Locate a coin store or other PM store that deals with scrap metals like gold and silver. Jewelery stores will most likely rip you off and only pay the face value for the product (about what they sell them for), not the scrap value.
