Curiosity kills the cat...What is "house color" ???
I read the following article at BBC yesterday.

[link to news.bbc.co.uk]

The last paragraph is as follows

There has also been a return to "houses" in many schools and this is also having an impact on school clothing, with ties and polo shirts being produced in house colours.

Not being a native speaker I am completely lost. Maybe it's a British idiom. Now, what exactly does "return to houses in many schools" and "house colours" mean ??

Traditionally, in high school in the U.K., you are a member of one of four houses, which will include an entirely different registration class [your basic classroom group], so that on sports days, etc., you are aligned with the other class/es in the same house.

I always thought it was just a competitive thing, but now I'm trying to look at it differently.

Interesting, thanks.

We didn't have house colours, we had emblems.

I was in the same house as my siblings who attended the same high school before me, though I'm not sure if that was the case with my cousins who attended the same school.

Just spoke to my sister, and at her local high school, there are now mixed age groups in registration classes; when I attended high school, everyone in my registration class was roughly the same age.

Not sure why they're doing this these days, except that maybe they're trying to put older role-model kids with younger ones.
