A plane with 109 people on board has crashed into four homes in Indonesia's East Java island. At least 2 fatalities confirmed.
ndonesian News Agency Antara is reporting at least 10 dead after a C-130 Hercules airplane crash in East Java
etro TV says the two confirmed fatalities were on the ground; the military plane caught fire and it's not known how many died in total.
A local official says the plane that crashed in Indonesia was completely destroyed after it slammed into homes, leaving only the tail intact

An Air Force Hercules crashed onto houses and burned only four kilometers away from Iswahyudi Airport in Magetan regency, East Java on early Wednesday morning. At least two local residents were killed in the incident.
The plane was on its way from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta, carrying 13 crews, tempointeraktif.com has reported.
The Air Force, however, has yet to issue any statement.
The C-130 Hercules Alpha 1325 crashed onto several houses in Geplak village at around 6:30 a.m.. Air Force personnel came immediately and extinguished at around 8:30 a.m.

Air force to intensify checks on Hercules planes

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) will immediately check its C-130 Hercules planes including those that have just undergone a retrofit following an incident in Wamena on Monday, its spokesman, Air Commodore Bambang Soelistyo said.
He said the intensive examination would be carried out to assure their condition.
He said a C-130 Hercules from Squadron 32 of the Abdurahman Saleh airbase in Malang, East Java, skidded upon landing in Papua after its back wheels came off.
He said the plane had just undergone a retrofit in Singapore and "therefore the check would be done on all Hercules planes including those that had undergone a retrofit in Singapore."
He said the airforce planned to improve the capability of nine of its Hercules planes in Singapore. He said the retrofit on four of them had already been completed, including airframe improvement and avionic and engine modification.
Retrofit has also been carried out by the Abdurrahman Saleh airbase` Maintenance Depot 30 to improve engine capability from T56-7 to T56-15 or from type B to type H.
Capability improvement is also being done in Maintenance Depot 10 of the Husein Sastranegara airbase in Bandung, West Java, that includes aircraft body and avionic modification.
Capability improvement of two Hercules at Depot 10 and 30 ws fully done by airforce technicians who had earlier been trained in Singapore.
"We have also carried out improvement and also routine checks to assure that our aircraft is airworthy," he said.

I think the slamming-into-homes plane crashes are extra tragic. At least the plane passengers, may they rest in peace, chose to get on the plane. Can you imagine, though, sitting on your couch, knitting or something, and a plane wing crushes you out of the blue? It speaks to a primitive horror: the home is the hearth, the one place we are safe. But sometimes not, things fall from above [shudder].

MAGETAN, Indonesia – An Indonesian military plane carrying troops and their families crashed into a row of houses and burst into flames Wednesday, killing at least 98 people, the latest in a string of accidents plaguing the beleaguered air force.
Black smoke billowed in the air as soldiers carried the injured past the burning wreckage of the C-130 Hercules — its tail resting upside down in a rice paddy and the rest of the charred fuselage scattered over several hundred yards (meters).
Military spokesman Sagom Tamboen said the transport plane, built in 1980, plunged to the ground near an air force base in East Java province, slamming into a residential neighborhood and then skidding into a field.
It was not clear what caused the crash, but several witnesses described seeing its right wing fall off while it was still in the air.
