I bought a great bread machine.....
I have been around glp for years.......

so you know how I think....

I decided that with my little garden in the back and bread and water if we had to stay in the house for several months..think pandemic, or hyperinflation hit or the great depression hit.....you know glp classics.....we could have fresh bread everyday by having a stock pile of a few simple ingredients...

so I reviewed bread machines(making it by hand is a real pain in the .....)

Emeril's bread and baguette maker is......well THE BOMB

I bought this and let me tell you, my family is nuts over the bread.

You simply put the ingredients in the machine in the order listed in the recipe book and hit start....

few hours later fresh homemade bread..

can make small 2 lb loaf which lasts us about a day and half or you can make a 3 lb loaf if you have a bigger family

to make simple white bread all you need is flour, water, salt and yeast..

I made a crusty garlic french bread today that was awesome..

you can add sugar or milk etc

you can also make 4 small baguettes with this machine

just amazing and as long as I can at least have electricity and a hefty stockpile of flour sugar water and salt.....well....no more high fructose corn syrup bread for us.......

comes with a recipe book as well

You might want to take a look at what difference the appliance makes to your electricity meter (see how much faster it spins) for that 2 hours of cooking time each day. You may find that what you save on bread will be added to your electricity bill instead.

I didnt buy it to save on electric, I didnt want to get too detailed but I did it to get rid of high fructose corn syrup products and to be able to add flax meal etc to our bread...

I've had a West Bend maker for years, and I loves to make bread, it's really easy. And it's sooooooo much better than any store bought bread, which is just crap loaded with chemicals. Manitowac Ovens is the only real bread you can buy anymore. Even Brownberry bread is now crap, they sold out a few years back.

Nope. It costs maybe $1 in total to make a loaf of nice wheat bread. A loaf of cheap crap bread, that's mostly water in weight, costs the same.

Dry out a loaf of store brought bread, then weigh it, to find that it was mostly water. Not so with home made bread.

This is confusing. You mean if she used her regular oven, it wouldn't cost anything on the energy bill?

Was just going put that link thanks Sunwyn. This is a fantastic , quick way to make artisan bread. Love it. I love making bread I make Ezekial bread, whole grain, banquettes,Italian, Rustic , and quick breads. I make most by hand , do have a machine but only use it to do the kneading if making lots. I bought an awesome grain mill and grind my own grain, what a huge difference in taste , and nutrition .

Good luck with your machine and bread making OP. It's cool thanks for sharing.

My kids are begging me to make bread each day. I didnt mind making it by hand but kneading it was just wearing me out. A high quality mixer is 250 bucks so bought the machine instead. Thanks.

We have one that is almost the same as yours, the bread is just so much better, thats enough reason to buy one of those.

Re: I bought a great bread machine.....
here is the recipe I use:
Ezekiel Bread

2-1/2 c. hard red wheat
1-1/2 c. spelt or rye
1/2 c. barley (hulled barley)
1/4 c. millet
1/4 c. green lentils
2 Tbsp. great northern beans
2 Tbsp. red kidney beans
2 Tbsp. pinto beans

Soak overnight and sprout, Rinse then:

Stir the above ingredients very well and grind in grain flour mill.

Measure into large bowl:

4 c. lukewarm water
1 c. honey
1/2 c. oil
2 Tbsp. yeast

Allow to sit 4-5 minutes for yeast to grow.

Add 2 tsp. salt and the grain mixture to the yeast mixture and mix well.

Pour batter into two greased pans 10 x 5 x 3 or equivalent. Let rise in a warm place until 3/4" to 1/2" from top edge of pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes (shorter baking time if using shallower pans.)

I make this bread everyday. We use it for pizza dough, cinnamon muffins and I often add herbs to the mix. My family can't get enough of it. I hope every one gives it a try.

I read this again and got even more confused. If your point is that it costs the same to make a loaf of home baked bread as it does to buy a loaf of store bought bread, why should that discourage anyone? Isn't homemade bread better, if you're willing to go to the trouble to make it, regardless of the price?
