Re: PROPOSAL - Pressurized Pipe to the Moon (For Birds)
What ever is in there has to fly fast enough to get there before death. Its 250000 miles, at 100 MPH it would take 110 days. Do you have food and beverage stops?
 Quoting: WalkerTalker2

Its pressurized. They would shoot out the other end like a potato gun.

Well where's the sport or effort in that?

It means the flight to the moon would require nothing more than having mass. And unless we are talking about birds who are comprised of photons, that requirement will be fulfilled by default.

Re: PROPOSAL - Pressurized Pipe to the Moon (For Birds)
I was thinking...

I have billions of dollars. There must be birds out there that would like to fly to the moon, but can't for one reason or another. (No one can quite make up their mind as to why).

Do you think it would be a good idea to build a clear glass pipe to the moon that has a diameter large enough for birds to fly through?

It could be pressurized the whole way, and kept at a certain temperature, so birds would have no excuse to avoid flying to the moon.

This is developing and any input on this project would be helpful and stimulating.

Thanks.

No answer from the crows, they just fly away when I get close enough to ask them about the pipe.

I tried yelling it to them from the deck but they fly away then also.

I'm gonna put a couple snares baited with bread down where they hang out and see if I can catch one.

I'll let you guys know if I get one in custody for questioning.

Hang around. This is a 5/10 on the Retarded Idea scale you see around here.

Oh, and OP, there is a fundamental problem with your initial plan:
The pipe could never reach the moon. Why?
BECAUSE THE MOON IS A HOLOGRAM!

Re: PROPOSAL - Pressurized Pipe to the Moon (For Birds)
Would the pipe be exclusively for birds? If not, you may have to implement checkstops and border crossings. Would the birds need to apply for passports or have the right to travel freely? What about birds with pending charges? This pipe could propose quite the "flight" risk...

The lift mechanism will, of course, be powered by green energy. This makes the entire project eligible for renewable energy grants, making the entire endeavor free!

Don't forget perches and feeding stations along the way. You will also need cleaning robots, the tube will get quickly obscured by bird shit.

Like a tubular mail system. Pop the bird in a cylindrical projectile, then KASPLAT it's slurped across space. Hey why don't they use that pipe to also send some air and water to give the moon an atmosphere too.

Exactly. And there is the matter of a free-floating "hamsterine" getting off-course or lost.

Just imagine one of those little furry wonders 400 miles off shore, pedaling, pedaling, pedaling, with no land in sight, and no depth gauge with which to measure progress.

I'm getting choked up just thinking about it.
