A Mr. Rogers thread........Describe your neighborhood/neighbors
Not so much location but neighbors...what got me thinking about this is we have a neighborhood cookout every year in my backyard

I live in a suburb that is right on the edge of the countryside. We love it....its quiet but 20 mins to anywhere.

We have great neighbors, next store on the southside of us is a older couple from India, they are devout Christians and have a mentally challenged son that adores my wife(He calls her Candy..not her name)

On the northside is a black lady and her daughter who recently moved here from California...very delightful people

Behind us is a white couple who also are very devout Christians and help me with the heavy stuff around the house

There are 3 Muslim familes within 3 or 4 houses of us on both sides,my son takes Arabic from Tarek (They are from Algeria)

It really is a nice, peaceful place & I never realised how muti-cultural my hick town is. A big diff. from my neighborhood I grew up in...not better or worse...just diff.

Nice Math!! I knew you were in tune. I haven't progressed to the neighborhood cook out, only been here for 4 years, takes longer than that in the south.

Got an old folks home behind us, love those folks and they love my gardens, always stopping, pointing and asking questions. Ain't life grand??

Re: A Mr. Rogers thread........Describe your neighborhood/neighbors
Well, our neighborhood isn't so friendly. We are known as transplants because we weren't homegrown from our small town.
We were greeted from the one neighbor when we moved in with "what are we looking at" as we were walking around they yard.

We have one of those constant mowers...nice guy though, but will come over and weed our front flower bed in fear they are spreading a 100 yards over to his place.

Family next door is ok, teacher and a retiree with grown children one of which is struggling to find work like many people in the area.

One off the back yard has the uncontrolled teenagers--mentioned in other thread.

One down the way tried for years to mow a right of way through the middle of our yard going with the "you mow it you own it law"
Hmh...so now...we keep to ourselves. Once in a while talk to the old guy who mows a lot next door.

My brothers neighborhood is nice like you mention though. They always have neighborhood cookouts and stuff...we go over there.

I have an older couple to the right of me, a young couple with their brood (their kids behave or "get it") to the left.

Across the road are two "empty nesters" and a family with kids the same age as mine, they'd all bend over backwards for you.

Behind me is the old family farm (it's mine, but it's hard to think of it that way).

I also live in a hick town with a patch work of people.

Neighbors? They are alive. That's been bad for my business due to them being sources of aggravating assault injurious to livestock etc. I'm at mountains most of the year. I inherited small land farmland to check on at KY. (Nobody's beeswax exactly where.) I'm at unfortunate area. Lands expanses are swell. Many bird watching episodes.

Re: A Mr. Rogers thread........Describe your neighborhood/neighbors
My neighbor rescues cats & dogs mostly but there are many other fuzzy and feathered things in cages in her garage.

I kid you not, this gal has over 30+ cats and about 20 dogs that stay inside her house. She talks real fast. She also has no teeth.

I cannot imagine what it must smell like inside her house.
Once, she told me that she uses straight bleach on her carpets for stains.
I said, "Hmmm.. "

WTF, I mean, what can you possible say?

The animals are mostly overweight and they are groomed so she is able to care for them.

On the other side I have a fambly of loud talkers & their little girl screams so loud that you can hear her a mile away. I call her the Lil Screamer. They have 7 big hounds that howl and bark and poop. The Screamer is home schooled.

Re: A Mr. Rogers thread........Describe your neighborhood/neighbors
The guy above me is a white college student who walks with bricks on his feet, and throws cigarette butts on the patio below me. The young hispanic couple below me keep to themselves but like to fight just about every day with their windows open. The nice young black lady to the right of me is quiet, and rarely ever seen. To my left is the apt building gym, with weight room below, where we get to hear everyone working out and drop the weights on the floor after each rep. Andd across from me is the dear old
82 yr. old Jewish lady, who puts her makeup on in the dark and just loves to talk, but is very pleasant. Would I BBQ with any of them, Naw... not interested. =)
If I lived in a house, that would be another story.
I would probably be happier too. =)

My neighborhood consists of thousands of trees, birds, squirrels, rabbits, a bear, deer, bees, spiders, mice, and a groundhog. We don't have neighborhood cookouts much unless I'm cooking one of the neighbors:)

Its nice though... No people, no gooberment, no B.S., dark dark skies at night, deep blue skies during the day, and debates from the Post Office, 9-1-1, and the county Voter's Registration and Elections Office about where in the hell I live exactly - its perfect!

My street, I have some Cubans diagonally across from me, they should be good when the SHTF, they aren't into tyranny. Old guy on my right side barely leaves the house, he could be dead, who knows. Old lady across the street looks like she has one foot on a banana peel and the other in the grave. Young couple diagonally across are typical yuppie trash, they won't last 5 mins. Old guy on my left is a total prick asshole always bitchin about everything and walking around the neighborhood like he owns the place. Typical greedy old POS who expects the govt to take care of him. When the SHTF he'll be the first to go.

I live on a cul de sac :)

no neighbor on my left

neighbor on the right is awesome. He's middle aged, single, bizarre, and extremely tolerant of loud music :)

Also on the cul de sac lives my aunt and her grown daughter and next door to her is my mother.

We cook out often chuckle

Unfortunately down the street, toward the main street the occupants aren't so great. There a family of about 8, mostly older teenage boys. They're loud, rude, and peel around the cul de sac trying to run over my 2 outside kitties any chance they get whilst blaring offensive music.

There's also the lady that sits in a lawn chair in her yard all day and WATCHES every move we all make.
She's called code enforcement on all of us at one time or another for all sorts of random reasons. Usually when she does this, she also calls the mayor *sigh*

But I enjoy it here :)

Re: A Mr. Rogers thread........Describe your neighborhood/neighbors
I've lived in my hood for 14 yrs. My next door neighbor (divorcee male in his early 50's) has been there since before I moved in. I don't even know his name. He owns a small business in town and spends alot of time over there. He does smoke a cigar every night because I can smell it when I go to take out the trash nightly. His twenty-something kids visit him occasionally. His grass is perfect at all times. Has a tall wooden fenced in backyard for privacy. Very quite man.

My other next door neighbor is in her mid 20's and has a chihuahua (short hair). Her parents and sister live in the area and visit frequently.

Neighbors across the street are in their late 60's. He's a vet and is very patriotic and volunteers alot at vet hospital. She apparently has dementia. Their girls, now in their late 30's, grew up in the house and visit frequently with their families.

neighbors across the street (further up) are in their mid 70's. They buy a brand new car every two years and he is obsessed with making sure the car and lawn are perfect. Their daughter in her 30's lives with them since forever. She gets the mail every day. He dusts off his car with a towel if too much pollen or dust on it.

If you occasionally have a beer with your neighbors, you'd be surprised how well y'all get along.
A lot of people who don't know me think I'm the biggest asshole in town. Racist, gun nut, paleoconservative, whatever their smear of the day is. The ones that live around me stop by for a beer if I'm out in the yard, we help each other with projects (guy across the road was putting a new roof on his shop last week, so I went over and helped), watch out for each others kids, make sure nothing hinky goes on when someone's not home- just good old fashioned neighborly neighbors.
The demographic, however is predictably bland. We are all blue collar, white, married with kids.

Re: A Mr. Rogers thread........Describe your neighborhood/neighbors
I live in the suburbs of a city. About 80% Catholics because we live near the church and school. Very homogenized community, although we now have a Muslim family and we used to have a Jamaican family. When it was a new subdivision with lots of kids, people were outside talking all the time. Now that the kids are grown we all leave each other alone.
After about ten years there were some disagreements in the neighborhood with other neighbors taking sides and lots of gossip, so eventually some people moved out and others just ignore each other or stay inside where they don't have to mix with the neighbors.
Good side was when the kids were young they were safe because we knew all the neighbors and they were decent people even if some had lousy personalities. Also, the nosy neighbors outside kept an eye on all the kids. Down side- the prevalent attitude was my kids are saints, your kids suck. Lots of phone calls to complain over petty stuff. "Your son made a face at my son" kind of stuff. God help any kid who did something actually bad, they would have sued you for damages and run you out of the neighborhood.
Good for raising well behaved kids, hard for the parents to have to put up with childish crap from the adults.
Now the biggest problem is the old lady with tacky plastic flowers and windmills in her front yard running our property values down. Nobody will complain to the subdivision association about it cause she's nice and she's old and everybody knows everybody in this community so people know her son and his wife, etc. Not the end of the world, but sort of embarrassing when you invite people over.
