I have a pretty large cavity on the side of my tooth... how long before it falls off?
Seriously.

It's all the way in the back near the wisdom tooth. None of my wisdom teeth were taken out, as they grew normally I guess.

Pretty large dent/hole... always feeling it with my tongue.

At times I feel pain, so getting a bit worried at times as well.

I'll probably need a root canal by the time I have the money/insurance to take care of it. :(

Anyone have any advice or anything? Don't want it to give me pain, hell, and stress. How much time do I have before I need to go to the ER?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Lighten up, man!

We all have dents that we feel with our tongues.
I'm pretty sure it's not gonna fall off, (your words, op) :)
Get used to growing older with no fucking help.

I'm glad that I have all my teeth. They may not be the prettiest, but they're all there and they're white. Count your blessings, op, and stop worrying about a little gap.

Re: I have a pretty large cavity on the side of my tooth... how long before it falls off?
Hahahaha, I just really do not want a root canal. I've always hated dentists and going there is like a damn journey through hell.

I'm not THAT worried. Theres always things around me that distract me from all these petty issues.

But nonetheless, I'd like to be safe and perhaps informed on how long it may be before I will require a dentist, as opposed to it being optional.

It's the only cavity that I can actually feel, and thats not filled or anything.

Thanks. :)

Well, it is a lot cheaper to have a filling v/s a root canal. If it aches longer than seconds to A minute, you already need a root canal. If it wakes you up at night, you need a root canal. So if you wait much longer, ya might have to have it pulled. But if it really isn't that bad, go to your pharmacy and ask for some temporary crown cement, and put it in the hole. Sorry.. Lolol @ supernova.

Thanks guys.. good advice.

It rarely aches or hurts me... it's just after I brush, there can be a sharp pain or 2.

Never wakes me up or anything THANK GOD! But eventually I have to take care of this.

Go to the store and get yourself some TEMPRA
It's a do-it-yourself temporary filling compound. You'll find it near the Anbesol. For the pain, get some Kanka, also found near the Anbesol. Kanka is way more powerful than Anbesol and will help get you through until you can see the dentist.

Dry the tooth, stuff cotton or tissue or a tampon in there, hold your mouth open, then shoot some super glue in that hole. Not too much. Test that a drop flows out when you gently squeeze it. Or put the glue on a toothpick or something and apply that to the hole. Then rub some baking soda on it, to make a matrix. Add a little more super glue and hold your yap open until it drys. It may be difficult, because your mouth will get really dry. And that fucking super glue may get real hot on the tooth, just don't spray that shit all over. I'd practice using a tooth pick or a pin dry, getting it on the tooth hole cleanly, then try it with the glue. Just don't get that shit in your eye.

before it falls out? I wish I could tell you it were that simple.

I would recommend you get it taken care of. Just wait until the roots get exposed and you take that first breath of air that cools the nerve down there and you will be beggin to have it fixed.

Go to the dentist. Find a clinic. Or a lot of dentists have low interest financing companies now. I had a similar situation with a cavity close to the gum line and was putting off going to the dentist. I was sure it was going to be a root canal or extraction but they were able to fill it.

It's only going to get worse the longer you put it off and it might not be as bad as you think. If there's any chance that it's not a root canal yet you should get it taken care of. It'll be a lot cheaper and/or better than the alternatives.

A few weeks probably. A month or two at the MOST. Get it take care of. I have been shot, stabbed, poisoned, hit by cars, etc., but I can tall you that without a doubt hands down the most painful think I have ever endured was dental problems.

On one ocassion the pain was so severe that I want into full body convulsions and begain vomiting. I also ripped out a molar with a set of pliers and ended up with a real nasty, potentially fatal infection.

EDIT to add: It won't just "fall out." The time I am talking about is how long you have before you are in agony the likes of which you have never known.

When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand.

Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"

Am going through this right now. I have all my wisdom teeth still and the two top ones have large cavities near the gum line that I can feel. Yesterday one of them started hurting excruciatingly so I couldn't sleep. Have bought orajel and am praying they can be filled. If I'd have gone back in December when I first noticed these I wouldn't be suffering now.

Do NOT go to a dental school unless you are into pain.

I made that mistake. The pain was incredible. The students are just learning what to do and what not to do. Consequently the teacher only comes by every once in a while to check on the students. In the mean time you are writhing in pain and this sick student is just trying to get finished before the teacher comes back.

Pain !!!!!!!!!

Go get that tooth pulled before it gets worse.

Go get it taken care of asap before you need an oral surgeon instead of a root canal. You don't want to know the details.

If you don't have enough money/insurance, many Universities have dental students that will do the work under the supervision of cutting edge dentists who teach. Verry inexpensive way if you need too.

Good Luck,

Rinse your teeth nightly with hydrogen peroxide and water. Food grade hydrogen peroxide is the best. Should take care of the nasty pain, decay, and stuff. Dentists are helpful too

Actually I know I'm late commenting to your post but getting along fine without those teeth, having them removed won't affect any of your eating habits.

I'm actually missing the third molar top left and the bottom right one now due to gum line cavities left too long so my dentist said and he would not repair them but I'm not noticing any problems of chewing food.

If you where to lose the second molars and teeth closer to the front of your mouth is when you would really start have eating, chewing issues.
