Natural soaps, cleansers?
Was thinking about this in light of the thread on natural shampoos and things like that, anyone know of any good clean soaps, body washes, etc? I remember using an oatmeal type soap aveeno once years ago (from the dermotogolist actually), but anyone know of others?

Also, while I'm on that, anyone know of ways to stop skin from flaking? I notice this a lot around my ears, and it never really goes away. Ideas?

In the shower, scrub flaky areas with a good pure soap like Ivory or CoCo Hardwater, then rinse, then splash on a bit of hydrogen peroxide and massage it into the area. It may sting. Let it sit on the skin for a minute, then rinse, then reapply and massage, then rinse.

Wash areas everyday, but don't over scrub flaky areas, allow the skin to heal. Use the the hydrogen peroxide 2-3 times a week, it should clear up in six weeks, but keep using the peroxide at least once a week.

I had that stuff on my ears, now it's gone.

Flaking skin... you could try supplements B complex, zinc and omega 3 oils. Your present shampoo might be too harsh or you may not be rinsing it completely off.

Jason products are pretty good. Natures Gate liquid soaps, Tom's too. Dr. Bronner's soap is excellent, but dilute it before using.

Clay soaps are good. They tend to draw out toxins and oils.

Pure Sandalwood or Neem or Chandrika soaps smell great and clean really well.

Yeah, that Bronner's is nice.

So you may want to try cleaning your bed clothes really well, then hang them in the sun to have UV rays kill the germs, even if you dry them in the dryer. And get a new pillow, the old one is making your ears flaky. And vacuum your mattress and box spring extra good, all sides and all over. Give your entire house a good cleaning and dusting, from top to bottom. Then get out in the sun at least a few minutes a day, to make vitamin D for the skin.

You may be getting environmental things going on, like germs and little bugs. Cleanliness is next to Godliness. My brother has this terrible skin stuff, but he never cleans his apartment. His diet has always been poor, but his apartment has never been messier. His skin is poor, because he's a slob who doesn't bathe enough, and he's getting dirt and germs from the house all day.

Olive oil is great for removing makeup.

I wash my face with raw honey and sometimes moisturize with organic coconut oil or vitamin e oil.

I do use Dr. Bronner's bar soap for the body.

Best thing for your skin & health is to watch what you're putting into it. Cucumbers and greens are great for your skin.

I'm not female so the makeup thing doesn't really apply lol. Some nice ideas though otherwise, I really do need to watch I eat, though it's hard when I'm living at home and we eat so much crappy fast food, processed, from restaurants, etc.

Try CalBen soap. Made the old fashioned way without harsh chemicals. You might like it.

Well if it helps, I turned my eating habits around while living at home too. And it wasn't all overnight, it was a process. I cut out soda, fast food and a lot of processed food. I don't know if you're getting inner proddings to eat healthier but I was. At this point I am about 80% raw food and my taste buds have changed considerably. I don't miss restaurants all that much because they don't offer what I enjoy now. I still go out with friends but its more to socialize with them than eat.

My family at first squawked when they realized I preferred to make my own meals than eat what they ate. Its amazing how people want you to conform with them. But they saw the benefits over time and started to ask questions. The weight dropped, the skin cleared and I was healthier over all. Its best to lead by example than preach to them about healthy food choices. Fast forward a few years later, my family has become the healthiest branch of our rather large clan and they're all doing it all on their own.

Also make sure to wash that pillow case often! Its good you're looking for more a natural cleansing route because more commerical cleansers and soaps are very irritating to the skin. The old belief was that our skin is a barrier but we breathe through it in a sense. If we have prescription meds that are absorbed through the skin, why wouldn't the same be true for various chemicals? Good luck!

Thanks for the tips, I cut out soda by and large a few years back, actually lost 20 pounds after I did that. Now I mainly drink water, teas (though need to watch for HFCS in those) and juices. I also make sure to drink only milk with no hormones added, you really can taste a difference between the two.

I know what you mean about family too, my family hates it when I try and cook new things and all this, that it makes a mess and stuff. I still persist on it though, because one I want to eat better, and two I want to learn to cook for myself also. Perhaps I should lead more by example though then preaching as you say though.
