Leading astro-physicist working for Nasa on the Cassini project Dead
Dr Kevin Beurle, an astro-physicist who had been working on a key spacecraft project, was found dead as rescuers raced to the scene.
Officials said it was unclear if Dr Buerle, 53, was killed by the impact or JUMPED from the balloon’s basket trying to save himself.
Last night pals of the thrill-seeking scientist, who loved adventurous pursuits such as diving and skiing, told of their shock at the tragedy in Turkey.
And they likened him to the zany boffin from the Back To The Future series of movies.

I don't think you can get life cover if you're a microbiologist.

The insurance companies would treat you like a sub-critical lump of plutonium!

scream

Pair Charged with Capital Murder
in Death of NASA Engineer, Three Relatives
July 1, 2008
LOS ANGELES – Capital murder charges were filed today against two men suspected of killing a NASA engineer, his wife’s cousin and her two children last month and then setting their Quartz Hill home on fire, the District Attorney’s office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman with the Major Crimes Division filed four counts of capital murder against Jae Hwan Shim, 39 (dob 3-18-69), and Steve Kwon, 37 (dob 8-12-70). Shim and Kwon also are charged with one count each of arson of an inhabited structure and first-degree residential burglary, with the special circumstance of multiple murders and murders during commission of burglary, making them eligible for the death penalty.

The felony complaint, case MA042627, was filed for arrest warrant and extradition. Shim and Kwon were arrested Saturday by police in Douglas, Ariz., a town near the Mexican border. They are being held without bail awaiting extradition to Los Angeles.

The bodies of Shim’s ex-wife, Young Park; her 9-year-old son, Justin; her 13-year-old daughter, Jamie; and her cousin’s husband, Joseph Ciganek, were found inside a burning home on June 23. Ciganek worked at the Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base.

Authorities said Park died from multiple stab wounds. Her two children, who were not related to Shim, and Ciganek all died of multiple stab wounds and suffered blunt force trauma.

Shim allegedly threatened to kill his ex-wife, Young Park, after she moved out of their house earlier this year and moved in with her cousin and her husband. Authorities said Shim allegedly also was upset that his ex-wife began dating her children’s tae kwon do teacher, Si Young Yoon. Yoon’s Acura SUV was found near the crime scene. His driver’s license, check book and credit cards were found inside. He is still missing.
