xc User ID: 691155 Belgium 05/31/2009 10:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They will probably bail out gm with taxpayers money i think. If gm goes bankrupt millions will be out of work millions i tell you!!!! Plus psychologically the consequences will be horrendous. We could see a tumble in stocks like in 2008! Or even worse for that matter this could be a trigger event for a panic on wall street!!!! |

But but, I don't get the GM bailouts.... if people dont want to buy their stupid cars, and they cant make them at a profit, what good is a bailout? Will they make cars that go to sit in lots some place? Will .gov give them away? What is the 'vision' please? |
_Storm_ User ID: 362931 United States 05/31/2009 10:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I don't know. If the concern was for the then unemployed auto workers it seems it would be cheaper to pay their unemployment perhaps for an extended time, and severance them out according to time with the company. Then they wouldn't have to spend the money to continue making cars nobody wants, or can afford to buy. |

They only make bulky gass guzlers for the typical american so their cars don't sell very good abroad (europe japan) As peter schiff outlined it they need to be more competitive and that means offering something that people really need = safe cars with low consumption these are the cars that are manufactured in europe and japan. Gm must focus on fuel efficiency like hybrid cars or electric cars they must innovate do some research invent new concepts... But right now it might be already too late for that! Gm is broke because it is simply not competitive anymore who want's to buy suv's in economically difficult times? They have been manufacturing the same concept for years without any consideration for the environement now they will pay the price for this monumental mistake! |

They were selling record numbers of autos. Mismanagement by GM and Chrysler caused their demise. Ford is treading water, and got loans from Canada. Toyota is still doing fair considering. Dont try to blame this on poor quality autos, because its not true |

Dont try to blame this on poor quality autos, because its not true It's the thrue you know but before the economic crisis people just got themselves into debt as bankers were throwing money at anybody but when the credit crunch began and the housing crisies started to pop things changed people realized they were buying cars that are way too expensive for their means not to mention the poor mileage of those grotesque suv's. It was only a matter of time before people realized that this auto manufacturer was not following the consumers needs they followed profit and now they are on the verge of bankruptcy. It will be interesting to see if the obama administration will bail out gm or not. If they do give them a bail out it will be with certain conditions that's for sure like modernizing their cars create new concepts that are more viable to the impovrished americans. If they don't bail out gm we could have a full blown economic crash!!! Then protectionism will follow and finally the demise of the us dollar which is perhaps what they planned anyway for the introduction of the amero only time will tell. |

smoelike User ID: 662447 United States 05/31/2009 01:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just read headline from SAn Diego Union Tribune that GM exec's are going into "secrecy mode." First thing that popped into my mind are golden parachutes as in HOW MUCH TAXPAYER $$$ is going to be given to the idiots who ran GM into the ground with our govts approval? You do know that is going to happen? I'm for letting the co go down the drain. If their assets can be bought in bankruptcy and used by a viable co who can hire the workers skilled in using those assets/machines, great. If not shareholders and exec's and sadly rank and file feel the burn. Rewarding the exec's for failure has got to stop! If a company is too big to fail it is too big to exist and should be broken up into smaller companies. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 239210 Canada 05/31/2009 01:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | As if we needed more bad news...GM will file for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy on June 1,2009. It looks as if the US Gov't will be in some partnership with the Automaker to the tune of 71% ownership. Thus the new meaning of the iconic initials GM from General Motors to Government Motors. How will the markets react? Or will they at all react to this news? Is this doom already factored into the recent meltdown of the markets?, or will this start the 2nd phase of doom along with the current and predicted rise in interest rates due to massive printing of dollars without value and more loan defaults and foreclosures that have not even begun, along with stagnant REO and Bank Owned houses that are still on the books that lenders and banks can't get rid of for pennies on the dollar? Quoting: Oh Crap! 690070Too bad they won't shut down the plants over seas. Foockers. |
