SC Supreme court orders Gov. Sanford to take Stimulus money
Our governor gets flowers from me for fighting the pork legislators over heavy spending. He stood up in court over the bailout money. Printed money, that no one has earned, being paid out to enslave the next generation of workers to pay back.

SC Supreme Court Hears Stimulus Case

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina's Supreme Court ordered Gov. Mark Sanford on Thursday to take $700 million in federal stimulus money aimed primarily at struggling schools.

The decision brings a likely end to months of wrangling between the nation's most vocal anti-bailout governor and legislators who accused him of playing politics with people's lives.

The Republican governor had refused to take the money designated for the state over the next two years, facing down irate protesters and legislators who passed a budget requiring him to do so. While other Republican governors had taken issue with requesting money from the $787 billion federal stimulus package, Sanford was the first governor to defend in court his desire to reject money from Washington."

He ought to say make me. That is not the judicial's role, it is the governor's.

Re: SC Supreme court orders Gov. Sanford to take Stimulus money
SC schools are among the worst in the nation. However, we get no guarantee how the school boards will figure out to throw away these millions, which have to be repaid.

Following are local comments on the article:

"98% of the governors, 80% of the House, 76% of the Senate, 100% of college presidents, 100% of school superintendents, all five Supreme Court justices and one writ of mandamus agree Sanford should and will accept the stimulus money in the manner described in federal law."

"Ha, Ha, Ha - Seeing Sanford slapped down tickles me to no end. What a great day for South Carolina's teachers and students - not to mention the rule of law!"

"You can never borrow your self out of debt. The ha-ha will be wailing when payback time comes unless you are one of those who owns nothing and draws your only money from a government check."
