I've spent more than twenty years working with others to rescue abused and abandoned animals, mostly cats and dogs. We returned lost animals to their owners, spayed and neutered pets, and found homes for many. When necessary, we put down injured, sick, or dangerously unsocialized animals.

Everytime I think I've been exposed (in the media, from other animal lovers, and from personal experience) to all the forms of cruelty, something like THIS comes along. A few days ago I learned about that sick-o teenager, who killed the kitten in the most horrific manner. I pray that these sick, sick individuals meet their karma, sooner rather than later.

who ever hurts a dog will live in pain and die in horror.

Personally, I'm more concerned about the sharks. Shark populations are declining and many species are becoming endangered.

I was remembering the video where they showed the fishermen hooking kittens. It was guite disturbing. Made me cry.

Have you ever seen how shark is harvested and killed? It's some uglay shit. But because it's dogs, it's a holy abomination, right?

It is a tragic situation, whether poor stray live dogs being used as bait, the way sharks are mutilated, whales and dolphins trapped, all this killing and cruelty to animals makes me sick. I have signed the petition.

When reading the article link from national geographic story, it stated this island has over 100,000 stray dogs and cats per year.

That in itself needs some rectification.

I call That article is almost 4 years old for starters. Also, having done a bit of fishing myself I have 3 additional observations. 1) hooking the day before to enhance the bleeding? No, you put that kind of "hook" through anything (worm, shiner dog, cat or human) and by the next day the bleeding will have stopped unless you pull the hook out. Any of you anglers ever hook your worms or shiners the night before? Besides, why weaken you bait ahead of time? A struggling bait, not a half dead one almost always produces more strikes no matter what you are fishing for. Though there are some fish species that are an exception to this rule, sharks aren't one of them. 2) the fishing method described in the article does not match the gear shown. If these are unattended lines set afloat at night, the likelihood of catching anything with a barbless hook is slim to none. Barbless hooks are used primarily for catch and release. Though the article doesn't specify what these "fishers" are using the sharks for, you've got to believe they are catching them either for eradication purposes or for food. In either case you'd want a hook with barbs otherwise all your doing is feeding the fish and not catching jack shit. 3)who the hell calls anglers "fishers"? It's angler, fisherman or fisherwoman NOT fishers.
